:D pretty much says it all what the state of my trusty 8800GT is after 2 1/2 years of service....

long story short: was in IL2 got greeted with a freeze and graphical artifacts and after that anything I did under windows or in a game result in a graphical glitch and system lock up.

without the drivers things run basic.

time to get a minor upgrade done.

If your card was made by XFX, eVGA, or BFG, you know it has a lifetime warranty right?

Hunter has a MSI card.

Arclight 07-29-10 01:45 AM

Well, at this point in time, I'd opt for a new card instead of having it replaced anyway. :hmmm:

My 8800 is still going strong (though I expect it's on it's way out as well), but if it croaks, it's a new card for me. :yep:

HunterICX 07-29-10 03:19 AM

depending the total price I'm planning the following

Current>plan:
Intel Duo Core E6750 2.66ghz >upgrade to a intel Quadcore
2Gb ram > 4Gb ram
MSI NX8800GT512 > GTX460 1gb
a new mobo and probally a new PSU when needed.

Might as well buy a whole new computer, no?

Castout 07-29-10 03:46 AM

That sounds like a new computer to me too.

Depends if my Mobo support the CPU & GPU then I won't need to change it but I doubt it...but Mobo's aren't expensive.

I still would be able to use the HD, DVD/DVD-R drive, case and PSU (when my current 600watt is enough I wont need to change it) and don't forget own a copy of XP so thats not needed as well.

but yeh probally the joke is probally going to cost me a 500 - 700 €

Went from a E6750 to Q9550 as well, board had no trouble. Might require BIOS update, but checking it's CPU support list should clear it up quickly enough.

Thinking I might get away with a GTX460 on my current 520W PSU, but it's been in intensive use for almost 2.5 years now; capacitors probably aged quite a bit at this point. :hmmm:

But yeah, 200-250 for CPU, 220 for the card, 60 for the ram (4GB kit instead of another 2GB), then maybe another 120 for PSU and again that for board. Adds up quickly.

papa_smurf 07-29-10 04:45 AM

Well my 8800GTX is now 1 1/2 yrs strong, so this serves as a warning for me to upgrade at some point.

Only in the states with XFX, in europe all you get is 2 year of warranty. No idea on the other brands.

I assume BFG will honour warranties on existing cards now they're pulling out of the gfx game... :06:

hmm, I dont think a 520 would do it... I dont know the power consumption for a 460 is, but I was just cutting it with a 650 powersupply.

yes, but you have that power hog of a 480
the 460 doesn't use as much :03:

check this review out and look at the power consumption summary screenshots by scrolling a bit down:

AAAHHH! Thats good then, arc should be set. Didnt realise the large difference between the power consumption.

Ya know, Nvidia did good with these cards, Good bang for your buck, now to much power, I read they run nicely also.
