Not any easy one. Truck had to go behind my neighbors house into their backyard to get the bucket truck to this position. My fence and their fence had to come down. Sadly I had to pay extra for the bucket truck because the center leader of the tree was rotten and gone. Therefore, the guys could not secure a safety rope to the center leader and cut each limb as they scaled the trunk. To make things worse it is a sycamore and these trees have nasty type powder on the leaves that make you cough like no tomorrow. Glad to see the tree go. It was a crushed house or hurt person waiting to happen. In the last two weeks two large limbs came down from the storms. No damage other than a fence panel came down when I was cutting up the first limb. I can only dodge a bullet so long. Well squirrels, time to find a new home.

We have dodged the bullet many times with limbs coming down. The tree was hit by lighting and dying slowly. Last year a large limb came down and through my fence. This year a large limb was down on my shed. No damage to the shed but the limb was still supported by the trunk. When I cut it off the shed the limb went through the fence. Last Wednesday the rotted trunk fell in a passing storm. No damage. My neighbor expressed concern. If I let the tree go and it did fall on the neighbors house I could be nailed with negligence. At any rate the trunk is now down and being hauled away. I'm the last guy who wants to cut down a nice shade tree and I'm also the last guy who wants his house crunched by large tree. My wallet is $2000.00 lighter as a result.

I got one estimate at $3500.00. I told the guy I did not want to buy his truck and all the equipment. :haha: I sent him on his merry way. The tree was just in a bad spot and in bad condition for attempting to take it down without a bucket truck or crane. The limb over my house at three storys up was as big as a tree in itself. She was a grand old tree at one time but she has become dangerous to folks living around her. Down she has to come. Oh, I forgot. To grind the stump is an additional $250.00 :doh:

Wow, you're definately not in ore-gone, as they (the state) will fight you from being able to remove a tree from your property:nope:. You must not have eco-treehuggers running the show there.

Ah, just wait until the next storm then claim the tree was damaged. That works even here in Massachusetts.

In MD if it is on your property it is yours and fair game for the chainsaw. :03:

I'm planning on hammering some copper nails into the stump (when the tree is felled) I've been told that'll kill off the roots etc. in a year or two :hmmm:

felling trees can be a b****. Power lines, houses, fences... lucily we got off cheap when we fell our old wallnut tree (over 150 years old). it was getting rotten and the branches were falling down. One almost mangled our car once, missed by 2metres. The tree was on the border with our neighbours pasture so we only hocked up to a tractor and pulled it into one direction so it fell predictaly. Dont know about the cherry though, on one side neigbours barn, on an other the power lines, the rest of them perfeclty good fruit trees we dont want to harm. I guess it will be branch by branch

There is root kill and stuff that make stumps rot a bit faster but I have my house on the market and the unsightly stump has to go!
