[TEC] VIIB Flak Question
I've just recently tried the 2nd conning tower upgrade for the VIIB, the one with the seperate platform aft of the tower, and the game won't let me equip the second flak gun for that platform leaving it empty! :damn: Has anyone else had this issue and does anyone know how to fix it?

Fixes the flak problem as advertised! I did get a CTD on my first dive though... I went to periscope depth (and noticed this pack overwrote bigreg's real periscope height mod:wah:) and it crashed after I hit the keys to fully retract both scopes.
On the bright side, it's amusing to have decoy launchers, radar detectors and the balkongerät on my VIIB in mid-1940. |

Are you sure the CTD was from this MOD? In the MOD folder you should remove files with the .GR2 extension. I forgot to remove those as nothing in those files has changed. They are only there to speed up load times when editing. I only MOD'd the .SIM files. The change to the .SIM is for Anti-Sensor Coating suffix, Rod and Round DF Antenna's. The suffix change didn't work from this location as the only thing used from that SIM is the Stats boost to the sub. There is a Coatings.SIM that I still need to edit in order to get a different skin for each Anti-Sensor coating. |
Hmm, okay then. One note about the antenna for functional purposes: the rod antenna was a vhf type and only worked for short range, line-of-sight communications such as ship-to-ship; it was the jumper lines going fore and aft from the tower that provided long range comms, so I'm not sure the antenna rod was ever deployed while submerged...

Actually I found an interesting note that the radio and hydrophone operators were the same person! So u-boats could not listen to the hydrophones on the surface simply because there was no one at the station, and they could not receive radio messages submerged for the same reason.

NO WHERE does it say the Sonar was not available when surfaced. Sonar availability while surface was dependant on the type equipment installed and the speed the boat is moving. I am certain that the Sonarman was also trained to opperate the Radio Station as were a few othe crew members. Again this i military cross trainning. The picture showing the Radioman at the Sonarstation also shows another crewman in the background wearing a headset hooked to the Sonar Station at the same time. When submerged below Periscope depth, there really is no need to man the radio station, so why not help on Sonar. |
Hmm, I suppose so... I just assumed that the dual training meant that the radio crew doubled as sound crew. :hmmm:
