Gulf crew evacuates ahead of storm

Okay what in the hell....

A tropical strom on the level of a bad afternoon thunderstorm moves through the carribian (several hundred miles away) and the crews scatter like rats when the lights turn on.

Yes I understand the storm may strengthen but its still days out and at the moment its just a big rain storm. Ive seen worse storms build up in a few hours over the gulf.

I guess they are erring on the side of an 'abundance of caution' again.

The good news is that the well is evidently capped so maybe this delay will not be too impactfull. It just seems like a bit of over reaction.

Have a look at the picture "Wave obscures rig" ... for cryin out loud that piece of chop must be a whopping 2' !!!

Oh and the storm tracks look to be off to me. I expect it to turn further north. Still effecting the gulf but much further east than they have it tracked. If the storm holds together I fully expect it to come right through here in the panhandle of florida if it doesent try to sweep up accross the penesula and run out of energy.

Pretty nice work with the picture. Having a wave that small obscure an oilrig comes with a great risk of a swimming camera :DL

Sigh... "Never let a good crisis go to waste".

Bit early there Bobby but cant say I blame him.

I talked to my mother in law this morning whom lives in sourthern florida. The storm was more or less centered over them while we talked.

Lots of rain, a few gusts, no tornadoe warnings, no big deal.

Again I dont even figure this storm to go into LA.

Okay as I guessed "Bonnie" raked up throught the florida penusula and fell to pieces. The weather channels still have 'panic and prepare' footage running.

I say hey... hey look several hundred miles to the south.... what about that storm over cuba right about now... now that looks like a real storm.

Ive been watching storms in this region all my life and the storm over Cuba is the one I would be watching.
