Pato's bearing mod problem
I replaced all the submarine files with the Pato's bearing mod and it still does not work. Apparently I also managed to destroy my career in passing when trying to get this mod working. I downloaded my career to see the nav map if the mod was installed properly and when I quitted I got error from SH3 Commander 'Invalid argument to data encode'. This mod is pretty vital since I'm mainly using dead stop plotting.
:damn: |
Pato's Bearing mod tool does nothing with your career profile, or has nothing to do with with what Sh3 Commander does. Iirc it's just a couple of .tga files that are to be replaced.

Please describe better how you installed the Pato's bearing mod and what you did with your career files. |

By downloading career I just meant that I loaded a save game. I know that installing this mod does not affect in my career in any way. I just failed something and destroyed it accidentally in the process. Thus adding more frustration to that I can't get even the simplest mod working without problems. Without this mod I can't even play the game. |
Well, which of the 3 mods (for SH3) that have the Pato grid wheels that I found in the downloads section did you use. All three have different steps to make it work.
It's also usefull information to know what operating system version you have: XP, Vista, Win7. And if the latter 2, did you install it into the default location in Program Files, or did you change the folder location? |
I have Win7 and I installed it to Program Files but not to C drive which is suggested as a default. I had created program files to my other drive and I installed it there.
I use this one of the Pato's mods: http://forums.ubi.com/eve/ubb.x?a=tp...2&m=5431068603 |

The link you provided is a weird one. It doesn't help in showing exactly which file you downloaded containing this mod. It does show a post with what the mod is, but it has no download link. The link to the other pages of that thead are corrupt or just dead. I tried to find the thread again the hard way by digging back to april 10 2005 but no luck. The thread didn't exist. As I said, a weird one. I know what the mod is and does, I'm just trying to find the original file and see what instructions were given to install it, and where you may have gone wrong. |

Could you show how those folders and files look like on your harddrive. There could be a slight naming issue. The original file of the mod has a double underscore in it at the end, where the ultimate file should only have one at the end.
As an alternative, the 3000m Pato grid is completely JSGME ready. BTW, you are using JSGME, right? That makes things so much easier. |

Edit: Tried 3000m mod. Not working. Tried installing the 1500m mod manually after moving the SH3 folder from program files. Not working. I don't understand what do I do wrong. I can't continue my career if I can't get this working.. |
Never just move a folder of an installed application. Thesedays Vista and Win7 won't let you do such stuff to the Program Files folder without propper administrator authentication, but it just isn't smart. There are usually important registry settings that point to the folder. If you need a clean SH3 game you have to do a complete rinse and reinstall. For prevention of annoyance, instal the game, as wel as SH3 Commander outside of the Program Files folder next time.
If you want to use the Pato 1500 grid mod with JSGME you have to recreate the folder-structure yourself. You could use the 3000m grid mod as an example/guide on what it should look like. The maps.cfg file might be in conflict with other mods you might have (or will have in the future). But JSGME will advice that it get's overwritten when other mods conflict, so you'll notice soon enough. |
here's a thread that describes the error message:
http://www.subsim.com/radioroom//showthread.php?t=83206 Best is to reinstall the game, patch, GWX, SH3 Commander and don't forget the extra files needed for SH3 Commander due to GWX. |

Also I got my career rescued. I apparently exited my career jsut pressing 'exit patrol' button so the game put me in to the base like I had docked to Wilhelmshaven after the patrol. So I launched SH3 without commander, deleted the newest save game (In the base after patrol 3) and loaded the previous 'real' save game 'In a mission, patrol 3' then saved and exited. Now commander shows my career as it should show, no error messages. Quite messily explained but I hope you got the general idea clarified. Thank you again, Pisces! And now, off to the sea! |
I knew my help in this thread was some how going to turn out being pointless. Good you figured it out yourself. That's all that matters.

In the end it was your suggestion what the problem was :03:. |
