'Has stopped working'

Anyone else having these lovely 'has stopped working' messages which crashes the game to deskopt? I finally, after many frustrating problems, got the SH3 working but I have this problem now which is the most annoying problem. It is very annoying to constantly save the game and wait 10 mins to get the game up and running again. I believe also that there is no "cure" to this problem? Pretty badly designed this windows 7. I get that message in half of my games. I would propably move to SH5 but I can't get any of the mods working properly and I will not play the stock version. It seems I'm not meant to play any silent hunter games :nope:.

I'm running 7 Pro just fine, with SH3 it's been more stable than XP, although I've not tinkered greatly with the mods, I have

GWX - Enhanced Damage Effects
LifeBoats&Debris_v4
GWX - VIIC41 Player Sub
GWX - Late War Sensors Snorkel Antennas
Load Screens
GWX - Axis Mediterranean Aircraft Skins
GWX - Integrated Orders
GWX3.0 All_Weather_Guns
GWX3.0 Additional_Ammo
GWX 3 St Naz and Schluese
Waterstream+Exhaust Combi V2.3 for GWX3
No continuous 'Ship spotted' V1.2 for GWX3
GWX - Contact Color
MFM-v3-US+UK_Skins19400801
GWX - No Medals on Crew
GWX - Merged Campaign
GWX - Alternative Flotillas
GWX - 16km Atmosphere

There are a couple of others too but I'd removed them for a multiplayer game earlier and only thought to list it once they'd been moved.

Can you run stock 1.4 ok, then try any supermod, then try your individual mods?

Once you start using more mods they become very RAM heavy, do you have enough? Even if you've got a large amount the stock game is limited to (I think) 2 Gig, there is a mod to increase that but you'll have to search for it in the threads - I don't think it's in the downloads section.

Is there any action that causes it to CTD, any specific keys?

System Specs are needed.

@ Mittelwaechter: I see you have the new adapter that lets your computer double as a lint trap for the clothes dryer.

Have you seen the one that turns it into the collector for the vacuum cleaner? :D

Lol! Does rather look as though someone has emptied the vacuum bag in there...

Windows 7 certainly isn't bugged by default. Sh3 (GWX 3) runs seemless on my 64bit Win7. You have not supplied any concrete information in which situations the game crashes. Mods and patches you have applied. We can't help with this amount of information.

Mittelweachters suggestion of cooling issues is a very good one. However that depends on your location. As in the southern hemisphere it's not summer. I myself had SH3 crash due to bad cooling in the case some years ago. Dusty graphicscard fans and harddrives stuck too close for comfort. And simply limited air intake openings.

Yes there is, by default in a 64-bit system, 32-bit applications still only use 2 Gb, there is plenty about it in this forum, LSH, and on BTSmods. This patch enables you to utilize up to 4 Gb for a 32-bit application.

Available from Reece's FF page, and several others! :yeah:

@Crécy

As privateer has posted, stating your system specs would be a good starting point but W7 should run SH3 at a canter.

I'm wondering though, if you've had it running before is it possible you've reinstalled on top of an existing installation without clearing the registry files and deleting the first installation?

I see you've gone for the "dropped from a height" case mod.

I use the inbound ai st eam of the case egula ly to clean my keyboa d and the desk a ea. A small funnel connected to a flexible tube and the magic begins. All that dust and ashes and the small food c umbs or those sticky booge s simply disappea into the case and add to its static mass cent e. Its easy and effective.
