Snestorm, I think the joke is that the whale should've gone to Specsavers for glasses, because he mistook a u-boat for another whale and was trying to mate with it.

Also: :rotfl2: to the ad, very clever. Was this ad made for English-speaking audiences, and with German dialogue and subtitles to underscore the "Das Boot" parody aspect even further? Because that's awesome.

Also: I was so relieved this turned out to NOT be a newsblurb saying that someone is remaking "Das Boot," because NOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!11!

We have a Specsavers in the High St. of our town and they put up largeish cardboard advertising depicting the whale on top of the submarine (it isn't even a U-boat) which helped nobody realise the theme/meaning...it flopped and was replaced with the usual mundane advertising boards pretty quickly :DL

Even their ads that aren't supposed to be funny end up that way... :rotfl2:

Had no idé what Specsavers was.

A bit of a rip off merchant, they advertise low prices but the hidden add-ons for lens protection etc. soon hike the price up.

My wife fell for it twice and now goes to an independant optician and gets an almost identical product for a little over half the price.

It was definitely not for a German speaking audience as the actors had strange accents when talking German.;)
