renown in SHIII GWX 3.0
hello everybody,
I periodically come back to the old sim. Never tried SH4 because I personally feel unrelated to the pacific scenario and I'm certainly not going to buy SH5 at any price because of the internet requirement thingy). I play at something near 90% realism and after 3 patrols (the first one being pre-war), I have sunk 20.000 t worth of merchants, but I only receive about 200 - 250 renown per patrol (so now I have more or less before my 4th patrol only 500). I am aware that the game awards renown based only on tonnage and realism, but I remember being able to switch from my IIA tipe to IID or maybe VII in 4 or 5 patrols. If this continues, I will be (if I amb lucky), stuck with my IIA until my 10th or 11th patrol, if and only if I do not update my boat (I remember the VII being price at 2.500). Is this normal? I am missing something? Thanks and good hunt! |
With 500 renown you will be able to get a IID when it becomes available in Oct 1939 I believe.
There is a small mod that does allows for the replacement of the 500 renown for reaching and patrolling your area for 24 hours that was removed from GWX. |
You could try WB's replacement renown mod, works with GWX3, in fact I'm downloading it myself right now -

What I do is to remove renown for equipment and personnel upgrades, and then use the renown to track my progress in the war until I get sunk (I have never been able to finish the war (DID+100%):wah: I find this a better solution for the problem rather than editing the saved game files to increase renown.:DL |
Excellent..

Thanks for the replies...
To Herr Berbunch: I might try that, but I don't want to mess around with mods, I've lost a lot of careers doing this... and saving at the wrong moment (I actually SAVED one corrupt Save pushing while in the loading screen a LOT of keys + ALT-TAB, shaking the computer, putting it upside down, etc..., I ACTUALLY SAVED IT, just to be depth charged by an angry DD near Scapa one game month later). Soooo, Should I try it, WHEN do I have to mod (using JGME)? I know I must do that while in port. Is it important AFTER or BEFORE patrol? To Irish1958. mmmm, I don't thing that renown to get things done is SO unrealistc. I imagine this system as being a mixture of , renow, yes, but also networking, high profile friends, etc... I've now been working in a big company for two years and a half, I now know how some people get the two armrest chairs, the blackberry curve, chromed stapler or the windowed office. :) The question is: is it normal to get 250 renown for a 10.000 t patrol?? Thanks and good hunt! |
Your realistic setting...

Yeah, in %... I don't remember getting them to be so hard!

If you're worried about save games, you could locate the saves and copy one (renamed) and try it that way. Fingers crossed  |

I certainly respect your decision not to buy or play it, but the reason given is invalid. Mods are installed between patrols. I think that would be after the last one and before the next one. |
Oh! That WOULD be cool (I don't read every post in subsim, so I didn't know that playing SHIV in the atlantic against the allies was possible). Anyway, my computer doesn't have the specs :(
I assume this reason will be ok for you. |

Eg: Sinking a ship worth 1000 renown whilst being at 50% realism would mean you would only get 500 renown. |
Funny, I've never thought about it in five years of play, but you would think the opposite would be true - more renown would be awarded at lower difficulty levels, rather than less. That's why it's less 'realistic'.

I think using 50% was a bad example........ A 1000 renown ship would yield 100 renown at 10% realism and the same vessel would yield 900 renown at 90% realism :DL |
