Ah yes, I remember coming across this a while back whilst looking for A-10 strafing vids...got to love the Brrrrrrrrrp of that GAU-8. Of course, not so great if it's spewing out hot uranium depleted death a few feet away from you :hmmm:

Gotta love the bloke on the camera

"Did ya **** yerself?!"
BLAM BLAM BLAM BLAM BLAM
"Pull back!"

"Everyone ok?!"
"Yeah, we're cool!"
"Though I just **** meself."

That's the problem with CAS...sometimes, the C is just a little bit too C. :damn:

More than would admit it, that's for sure :03:

Speaking of reality in film, I came across this little one the other day:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aLFliTyydSs

What gets me is the soldiers advancing after the blast...I wonder how many of them made it into old age?

How frighteningly stupid is that? :o

The Army conducted several of those tests. There have been some reports in the (recent) past of the lasting effects on the guys that were there, but I don't recall offhand where to find the information. Nuclear Archives website might have some further reading on it or at least links. All those bookmarks I had were on the old drive.

Some grim reading...and that's just the US...the Soviet Union did far worse (although naturally the records are very well hidden) and even the UK was not exempt.

The mushroom cloud has a very dark shadow :yep:

Check out the documentary "Radio Bikini" if you want more information on human nuclear testing. It is not a happy ending type of documentary.

I believe you remember correctly. Especially with that guy at the end of the film. :nope:

radioactivity just freaks me out, if in fatal cuantities of that material on a human beeing the way you'll die is just horrifying. I wouldn't wish that even upon my enemy.

I'm only finding brief clips of Radio Bikini on Youtube (lazy as I am :DL). Sounds like a trip to the bookstore is in order.

ADDITION

Found this interesting documentary of Operation Crossroads. I think it's the approved DoD version.
