Severodvinsk launched - Video
Here is a video
http://rt.com/Top_News/2010-06-15/nu...sk-launch.html Now you don't see much of the sub but I noticed it does not have a pump jet. Given it was started in 1993 and stopped for so long could be the structure was already fixed and could not be incorporated. I would expect the second one to have one considering the Borei does. |
Would have been nice to see more of her.
I'm probably stating the obvious but I would have thought the cost constraints at the time of construction meant doing away with the pump jet. I noticed they even cut costs on the method used to break the bottle of champagne on her bow :DL The initial propulsion specs were: Quote:

The link you posted Xabba appears to be dead. I also noticed that the 7 blade screw isn't highly skewed like on US boats. Didn't think I saw the aft missile deck for SLCMs shown in some drawings. |
The prop isn't skewed at all.
Then again for the time being that could be deliberate. |
As I understand it highly skewed propellers reduce cavitation along the end of the propeller blade, which makes me wonder if the Russians have developed something better to counteract that.
Or they have discovered it not as much of a problem. Or they plan to change propellers once all the press is gone. ...Darn I guess my sig might need a remake... bah I like my version of the Severodvinsk better! |
Dutchintell has some photos. :yeah: Check them out! :03:

This would be the final or very close to final design |
Very odd then that they seem to have taken a step backwards.
The Akulas and Oscars have skewed prop blades, the Borei a pump jet, why on a Submarine started in 1993 they have opted for this type of prop? They had Akulas at that time with skewed props... |
