[REQ] SH5 Water for SH4

After seeing the amazing results in the SH5 Water for SH3 mod, I was just wondering if it would be possible to make it for SH4 too.

So? Possible?

maybe in the future

SH4 already has pretty amazing water. All that seems to be missing is the foam, and that wasn't reproduced for SH3 either.

I think that the amazing foam trail we see in SH5 has something to to with the graphics engine and therefore, cannot be reproduced in SH4.

Sad indeed...

sad for sh4 players

SH5 uses different renders. Don't think this is possible.

Bump.

It's been more than a year ago!

But is there no way to tweak or modify the shaders? I really don't think shaders are hard coded. One could import shaders from sh5 along with the correct textures and mod them to hell to make it compatible.

But I must admit, it really IS me who is trying to do that right now! I started to think about it again recently, and I think there's definitely a way to do this. History has proven that ANYTHING is modable, provided you have the right tools, of course...

Royale-Adio 11-17-11 03:54 PM

Bah! Forget about it!

I just discovered that the renders are in the SimEnv ACT file and since I cannot distribute ACT files without having trouble...

I COULD try it for myself though but I do not know how to modify a ACT file (dlls also). Hex editors are confusing!!!

Anyone care to help?

I would love to drop a fleet boat into the SH5 environment. I like SH4 water/sky but I like SH5 better. :DL

Only thing i REALLY wish would get fixed in SH4, is the transparent crew bug with environmental effects enabled. That's a buzzkill and a half. I can't remember the last time I enabled environmental effects because of it.

*THAT'S* what caused *THAT*? Thanks, D. I, too, would rather have solid crew than pretty waves and crew that's see-through.

(Oy ... my corny poetry gene can be seen.)

If it was done to SH3 , it probably already works for SH4

I think the water on SH4 is the best, that is v1.5 of course. Being able to see the boat in shallow waters (aircraft can too) makes it perfect, yet it doesn't make it impossible to see your boat with the free camera while submerged.

But, as I said, SH4's water by itself is already better than the SH5 water for SH3. The only thing missing is the foam. If that could be done, great. On the othe hand, the SH5 foam doesn't match the bow and stern wakes. Those are white, and the rest of the foam is a very light grey.
