When Google Maps' walking directions instructed Lauren Rosenberg to walk along a very busy highway with no pedestrian walkway, she followed the directions exactly.

Unfortunately, she was hit by a car in the process. Now she is suing Google for damages, Search Engine Land reports.

The walking directions from 96 Daly Ave to 1710 Prospector Ave in Park City, Utah, told Rosenberg to walk just over one half of a mile along Deer Valley Drive, also known as Highway 224.

The highway did not have pavements or any other pedestrian-friendly amenities and Rosenberg was struck by a car driven by a man named Patrick Harwood.

Rosenberg filed suit against both Harwood and Google, claiming both carried responsibility in her injury.

Her lawyers claim that Google is liable because it did not warn her that the route would not offer a safe place for a pedestrian to walk.

The Google Maps website does do that, as pictured here. However, Rosenberg says she used Google Maps on her BlackBerry, which did not show that warning, so she is suing for more than $100,000.

I assume Google told her to walk in the middle of the street instead of on the shoulder.

Hey, I should go to Europe and then sue Michelin because I crashed my car while I was reading their map. :D

:nope: Why...just why do they do it? Is it to annoy people like us? Do they get some kick out of it?

Cases that have much more substance than this get thrown out every day. This will be tossed in about 2 seconds. It has no chance of standing in circut and hell no in the supreme court so its going to be tossed at first sight.

I for one lament the lost art of shoulder-walking. Sidewalks are for wimps :|\\

So what's next? The car's driver sues google for sending the lady walking his way. Google sues the municipal and state government for building the road. The taxpayer pays.
Isn't that how these things really end when they actually get somewhere? :dead:

If google had told her to jump off a cliff she probably would have done that too.

Honestly this just sounds like a law suit ploy. I mean who is stupid enough to cross a busy street without looking?

If you use the google street cam you can see there is a grass shoulder, so why the hell was she walking where she could get hit?

At first I thought she was walking across a Highway with no shoulder( we have several in Florida).

I burnt my crotch when i spilled McDonalds hot coffee in my lap the other day while flipping off a school short bus going too slow. Im suing McDonalds for the coffee, the school system for not having buses that can corner at speed, and Levis for not protecting my nads!
