Well, I'll be, I was only watching the episode of the 'First World War in colour' last night that mentioned Jutland.
My favourite warship was there too, Warspite. She got quite a walloping but made it back alright. The mysterious steering curse that would keep cropping up throughout her life started there too IIRC, after she turned to avoid colliding with HMS Valiant, then got stuck and wound up going around in circles which drew the Germans attention away from HMS Warrior, thus saving the badly damaged Warrior as the Germans attacked what they believed was a critically damaged Warspite. http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedi...damage1916.jpg |
This thread would have ideally been made at 15:48, but oh well.
The Queen Elizabeth class battleships of the 5th Battle Squadrons fought some of the hardest points of the battle. For example, they acted as the rear guard of the entire Battlecruiser Force during the Run to the North because of signalling troubles, under fire from every German ship in range. |
