I WIll Be Sticking With SH5 - But Just Now The Love Is Not There

with patch and several great mods (thanks guys) I still don't get the feeling of WWII as I did with SH3 out the box. The 1st time I set sail with SH3 I felt I was going to war , seems silly but there was a feeling of nerves anytime "Smoke on the Horizon" and it only got better as time went on.

Without going into great detail , bottom line just now SH5 doesn't give that same feel even after patch and these great mods. Why ? To me with these "mission set tonnage" in a set time frame its - dash to patrol area sink what you can and Dash back to base to Reload and Dash back to the patrol area. That alone kills any feel of WWII uboat war, the Happy Times sink 10 ships with War supply - I thought all ships had War Supplies - or 200,000 tns.

It feels an arcade shooter and I don't mean game settings I mean the dashing to patrol area and back to base time and time again to meet the tonnage and the time frame.

I want the SH3 Campaign style , get a Grid to partol and there and back when you want and sink anything there and back and it counts.

I take it there are mod groups working on a Campaign for SH5.

So totally ignore the missions. Problem solved. :woot:

Just do the patrol objectives. Sure there's no grid squares anymore, but you're still sent to a location and told to do something there. Just do that, and ignore the sink X tonnages or X warship nonsense.

You don't have to do those missions, so if they are what's causing you to lose the feel of going to war, just don't do them.

The only problem with totally ignoring the overall campaign objectives is that to get access to certain Campaigns (ie: Operation Drumbeat) you have to do so well in the preceeding campaign

Don't worry, walsh. It will come. Lots of good modding and good times ahead, I think.

I have the same problem with SH4. SH3 is hard to get a lot of time compression on my PC, plus the necessity of changing the crew out every four hours makes me slow down and smell the salt air. SH4 TC works much better, so I have a tendence to rush all over the place looking for my next battle. I have to force myself to take my time.

I'm sure SH5 will improve with time. It's getting a lot more attention already than SH4 did.

Haven't gotten terribly far in the campaign just yet, however, i feel it is my duty to the fatherland to sink any and all ships with a british flag, whether or not its in my mission objective. Its now january 1940 and still working on the blockade of Germany. my last patrol i got 2 of 5 amc, a battleship, 2 freighters, and a tanker. only the 2 amc's counted towards my objective, but im raking in tonnage everytime i leave port, which to me, is my ultimate objective.

Problem solved! Use this little tool to skip right to Operation Drumbeat! :yeah:

Does that function also change the usage of submarines? I'd rather not start Drumbeat in a VIIA for example.

Also, the last time I used it, it appeared as if the game just showed that youwere in that particular campaign, but things such as upgrades, etc were not available

Not yet, but what you'd do is play to almost the end of Mare Nostrum, then before it expires just bump your save up to Operation Drumbeat.

PERFECT subject for the XBOX 360 exclusive SH6. :yeah::up:

I've been playing the game the same as SH3, i just patrol the area that im told to and ignore the overall mission. Sinking anything that i come across. :yep:

Unfortuently i dont think im going to make it any further into the campaign (check my sig). :o

I play 100% realism and dead is dead. And it looks like im going to be dead very soon. Both electric engines are dead and theres not enough sea under me to lose the escorts pinging me.

I blame Nisgeis' U-boat Killer AI Mod for this situation. :O:

Hope that i do manage to survive, But even if i dont. I had alot of fun.

Yes offcourse you could ignore the campaign objectives . But personally i allways feel the need to do them anyway because its the only thing that gives any sense to the campaign. If i ignore the objectives i feel as ifboatthough i,m ignoring the war and playing rogue u-boat.
I was kind of hoping sh-5 made me feel as i,m nolonger fighting the u-boat war on my own , in fact it does an even worst job ob this then sh-3/4. I feel completly alone in the campaign and i never ever seen a friendly u-boat that helps the wat effort (exept from one chance incounter in the med) Dont get me wrong , in many ways sh-5 is superieur but in many ways it feel much more sterile then sh-3 and sh-4. Apart from the u-boat pens there is no life whatsosever in the harbours. Contact with BDU is the most minimal of all the silent hunter series. I dont even get a "keep up the great work" when i send in a contact report. In the campaing in total germany i had to sneak into port more then 10 times to complete myobjectives in time. i mean comeon where is the realism? Also the fact that there is now a lack of updates for the u-boat because of the campaign ending in 1943 and you can nolonger give a wide variety of medals and upgrade the whole crew (no only at sea to a limited crew and medals are limted to 1 medal per crew)when your back in port simply takes awat the immersion when in port. I miss the fact that i cannot replace my crew for better onces or simpley because i had some fatal casualty,s. I,m pretty confident that sh-5 will be what is should be after a year or 2 thanks to the community. But its such a shame the UBI has stripped sh-5 of so much features that made sh-3 and sh-4 such a succes. I still wonder why succes formula,s are binned in the case of sh-5.

Yeah. It's already been confirmed for the PS3. Different title, though: it will be called 'Crash Dive Bandicoot' instead. :yeah:
