My first radar kill

Running RFB/RSRD mod.

It's February 1943 with moderate rain and overcast skies. Sure the sun is up and daybreak brightness is upon us but heavy morning fog has not lifted yet. Visibility is low and the watch is fatigued from nothing to look at. I'm heading towards Darwin to refuel and resupply. Still north of Java with only four fish left in the aft.

Radar-man calls out "single contact sir". After a couple patrols now with the newly installed surface radar this is the first peep from the blind mutes. I assume it must be the air radar-man. He make up for there lack with his constant tremblings. Something is not right, I better check the surface radar for myself. Sure enough a nice strong spike. Dang the blind mutes must of had there Wheaties.

The contact is plotted on the map. Then a few minutes plot another and another. Got the course and speed. Begin setting up my aft for the attack. Radar reports coming in. Now sonar reports are continual. Closing, 161, 165, 167, constant distance. Come on..where is she. No sight of her. She right here why can't I....there she is. Her bow breaking through the mist slowly becoming visible. Line up a fish with the first mast. FIRE! Next the smoke stack going for the engine room. FIRE!

It's a hit sir. It's a hit sir. Sweet two right on the money. She does not slow a bit though and continues on her way. Right back into the fog disappearing from view. Emotions take over and I take chance pot shot. No joy.

Where are those boys who discovered there voice. Yes with the help of radar I catch up with my victim. There she is. No need to let my last fish loose. Shes come to a full stop and taking on water. Time brings her down.

That new piece of equipment finally proves to be of value. On to Darwin.

Congrats

I've only had those air contact reports myself.

Fog is a bummer. In SH3 I nearly got run over by a target. No radar there. It was night too. The lookouts never did report it, I saw it myself and just managed to swerve. The target got away too, with three fish searching.

Gotta love that radar!:yeah: I used it all the time in SH1. I think it actually worked better. I miss the bathythermograph also:cry:

It's our prime weapon! Must have saved countless of lives too!

Once used it to bring a too fast task force to a halt.
In despair we used radar to get range and bearing and launched a dozen shells in that direction... It worked! :rotfl2:
