How to back up your game?

So last night I died in 1941 so I uninstalled everything and re-installed.

Lifeboats and debris is working again, as is screen shots.

Once I get a working install, what is the best way to back it up?

Do I just copy the program files directory?

There are a number of ways but here is the method I use....

Once the game is installed I rename the game folder in C\Programs and the desktop icon GWX3.0 (or any other name of your choosing....BUT NOT SHIII).

I then put the game disc back in and select the 'repair' option.....this reinstalls an additional installation and by default calls it 'SHIII'.

When the disc is unable to find a folder called 'SHIII' it automatically creates one.

Just curious: why did you uninstall and re-install when you died? Can't you just delete your career and then create a new one?

Mods stopped working so I uninstalled and reinstalled the game.

An insurance against that type of event is to use SH3 Commander and set it to 'automatic rollback'.

I don't use commander.

What is the order of install with commander, GWX, SHIII and mods?

SH3 Commander is a standalone piece of kit (and bloody excellent at that).

If you decide to use it (and I strongly recommend that you do) you will need the SH3 Commander CFG file from my FF account.

I only keep a copy of the SH3 folder in (My) Documents and the total MODS folder (for JSGME) in the game's base folder if I need to reinstall. Before I use JSGME again after reinstal is finnished I first delete the hidden folders and jsgme.ini file (in MODS) left over from the old JSGME. Oh yeah, don't forget the Personell Files folder made by SH3 Commander if you use it. Everything else is recreated by game install or patch and (super)mods.
