Man, this SUCKS!
This patrol just plain sucks:
July 1940, after finishing patrolling AN31 (as per orders) and encountering exactly SQUAT I decide to make my way towards British coast hoping to encounter some ships. On my first attack on Large Merchant all four torpedoes fail to detonate. Because there's too many warships in vicinity (PT boats) I can't surface and the merchant gets away. Oh, well, there's gonna be another targets.... Couple days later I encounter another Large Merchant, manage to sink it with 4 torpedoes. I'm underwater and observing the sinking (on external camera, playing only on 72% realism) but DON'T GET CREDIT FOR SINKING. WTF, where's my 10K tons credit?! Another Large merchant comes my way and I have only one torpedo left. Los! Hit her right in the screws. She slows down but does not sink. The weather is crappy and I cannot use the deck gun to finish her off so I decide to shadow her. Following her for about 72 hrs. She is ass heavy but still plows on. The sea remains heavy... Out of nowhere Bf-109 appears and releases two bombs. Near miss! Whoooo, I still have a chance! Two hours later the merchant is sinking. Son of a b!tch!!!!!!! Here goes another 10K tons. This game can be really frustrating sometimes. :damn: Back to Wilhelmshaven, better luck next time, I guess.... PS I wish SH5 had THAT kind of atmosphere..... :haha: |
could have been a lot worse...... A LOT WORSE...........
its better then being sucked into a harbours walls like i was in lerwick. thats scary! you get sucked in, and cant get out, and your hull slowly dies............. |
sunk is sunk. i never care about renown

And you are well renowned for your thirst for renown.
I've had whole patrols where I didn't see a single enemy ship. I love it!:sunny: |
At least your patrol didn't last 182 days...
On the bright side, I did sink a coastal tanker for 1k tons.. with 5 torpedos. |
Is it just a glitch in GWX not to get credited for sinking I actually observed?
I've been playing GWX for years now and, as far as I remember, this was the first time it has ever happened to me. |

Oh it has happened to me on quite a few occasions and bloody maddening it is at the time http://www.psionguild.org/forums/ima.../pissedoff.gif Your only ever positive that you'll get the credit/renown when you receive the message "She's going down". |
In my case the message would be: Message intercepted, Herr Kaleun: "SSS... SSS... ATTACKED BY SUBMARINE... HEAVY DAMAGE... SINKING..." (that's what I have instead of boring "She's going down." :D)
But you are right, I didn't get the message even though I could see through periscope that she INDEED sunk! Just my luck: It had to happen on 10-tonner instead on 1.5K coastal freighter. :damn::haha: |

Sinkings credited during the actual War were wrong.
So Being ripped off in Game is kind of correct. (I'll just BET that was planned! :haha:) 2 Coast Guard Pilots were awareded for sinking a Sub in the Gulf. Found out years later they did not sink that sub. So in a way? When I don't get credit for a sinking? I pretend, in my warped head, it's one of those type deals. |

Privateer took the words right out of my mouth (luckily he didn't take my tongue as well). Read Blair's U-Boat books or Silent Victory and see how many 'confirmed' sinkings were reversed later. I sometimes tell myself that I filed a report and was given it back for revision. "SS Wallflower, which you reported sinking? She sailed into Bristol three days ago.":damn:

Just like "Not so long ago..." is much better than "Initializing..." |
