So whats you average performance?
So, I was woundering, what kind of performance are you getting? settings? System.
First off, my system. CPU Intel E8400 3.0ghz Windows 7 64bit 4 Gigs of ram 480GTX overclocked In the subpin around 40 to 50 FPS In the sub 70 to 80fps in port outside 50 to 80 fps at sea 87 to 170 fps This is with all cranked up, but at 1600 x 1200 resolution. Much better than when I had my 8800. which was very laggy. |
Basically 30 FPS everywhere. That said, it's 1920x1200 full shadows and full AA. GTX 260. Control room used to be an unplayable 9-11 FPS, MUUUUCH better now post 1.2.

Before patch 1.2 i was getting better performance.
CPU Athlon64 3500+ (single core) Windows XP Pro. 32bit 4 Gigs of ram Radeon HD 4870. 1gb gddr5 Patch 1.2 In the subpin around 20 to 30 fps In the sub (except command room) 40 to 50 fps In sub command room 40 to 50 fps in port outside 20 to 30 fps at sea 35 to 45 fps All settings max, except AA which is at X2, screen res 1280 x 1024. Patch 1.1.5 In the subpin around 40 to 60 FPS In the sub (except command room) 30 to 40 fps In the sub command room 30 to 35 fps in port outside 50 to 60 fps at sea 50 to 60 fps All settings max, except AA which was at X4 and particles set to min. screen res 1280 x 1024. So as you can see Ubi fixed it for Nvidia cards, but nerfed ATI. but they did fix the Single Core Processors (which they didnt have to). I had higher settings (AA x4) and better FPS in patch 1.1.5 I dont notice the differance in FPS unless i display it in game. |
1920x1200 all maxed out settings.
meter flashes between 30-60 fps constantly, with smooth gameplay at all times. Slight slowdown for the event camera, though I am now doing a 100% realism and no longer use it. 4870x2 10.4 drivers. |

Everything maxed in the game . Everything maxed on the card except only 4 AA . 1920x1080 hidef . 120 inside sub , 90 outside .

I don't have fraps or anything like that so I can't give you fps. I did notice a minor improvement in frame rate and mouseview after the patch.
Last weekend though I got my tax return :woot: bought another 5870 and with crossfire it's smooth as silk through explosions and whatever you throw at it. The mouse does still occasionally "stick", but much less frequently. 1920x1200 with everything on, I5 750/Win 7, 4Gb DDR3 |

To display FPS in game... [Ctrl] [F8].... or was it [shift] [F8] ????? It's one of them anyhow. :03: |

Your CPU is just not in the minimum requirements, and SH5 is very CPU heavy. Since patch 1.2 you may have lower FPS, but mouse lag or other kind of laggy stuff (like particles) should be gone. The game should be smoother in 1.2. |

I'm not complaining. Just pointing out that my FPS has dropped since patch. I dont notice the drop in FPS. Unless i press [Shift] [F8].... Or is it [Ctrl] [F8].... anyhow... I'd rather take a few FPS hit and have smooth particles. Sea spray and explosions look much better when they're not slide show like. :yeah: Also im glad game runs at all on my system. More so that it runs perfect. I was expecting to have to upgrade my Mobo, CPU and RAM ... just to play. Hard to find a duel core processor for my mobo (939 socket). Hope to see more patches, still a few bugs but the game is now playable. Thanks for what is now looking like a great game. Good work. :salute: |

I'll do some testing tonight and post the results. |
I have a tip for you guys with regard to improving frame rates. It involves removing 'Bloom' which I find is an effect that is overused in games these days, especially SH5.
Take a look here: C:\Ubisoft\Silent Hunter 5\data\Cfg\Lights.cfg I recommend you make a back-up copy of this file in case you get too slap-happy :DL Anyway, in that cfg file you will find this: GaussBloomDeviation=0; ; Deviation factor for the Gauss Blur & Bloom GaussBloomMultiplier=0; ; Multiplier for the Gauss Blur & Bloom There are settings for bloom for inside the Sub, inside the Sub-Penn, Exteriors, aswell as the Global settings. Change them all to zero if you wanna slightly improve frame rates  There are a few other things you can mess around with if you're feeling brave. I reduced the intesnsity of the light-rays a little too. Overall the game now looks less gaudy :|\\ |
The General good find! Thanks!
Average 30FPS in all situations in including crap weather. CT and the entire sub are now super smooth and you can sprint up and down the boot at your leisure. AMD Phenom 955 BE Rev. C 8 gigs of DDR3 9800GT Win 7 Pro 64bit 1920 by 1080 Shadows slider to halfway AA full on V-sync locked |
Well I got some interesting results, and now have more questions!
Yes, thanks for the info General :yeah:. While I'm happy with my framerate, I don't like bloom. As for my results, having crossfire enabled or not seemed to make no difference: 1920x1200 max detail, full in game AA, no vsync: Bunker was 47fps, in the pen ext = 54fps and int = 64 At sea ext = 61 and int = 96 This may be the result of my testing methodology however. Noting a wide variation in fps depending on where i point the camera, I decided to take my measurements without moving the camera from the original load position for external measurements, and a specific spot and view for the internal ones. I don't think my methodology captures what happens when many things are going on at the same time. Another conclusion that could be reached is that SH5 is not taking advantage of dual GPU technology. I don't know if this is necessarily the case though as I have noticed an improvement in the mouseview/camera. Ah well, time for a beer and a patrol :arrgh!: Maybe I'll try vsync again although pre-patch 1.2 it made the camera stutter badly. |
