Surface Combat?
Is it possible to control surface ships in SH4 whatsoever? I'm trying to satisfy my fix for a "WWII era blow them all to hell with 16 inch guns" sort of game.
Speaking of which... anybody know of a "Great Naval Battles" (SSI) sort of game out now, or that may be coming (I tried Ironclads and Jutland, not quite right, since they're missing a "dynamic" campaign) seems like the genre has died out. |
There's a ton of playable surface ships out there. Check out the list:
http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?t=156537 Not all of them are career playable (some are, others are for single missions) but if you want to get your surface battle on, that's the list to work from. I prefer the Cleaveland light cruiser, but they're all there from the Yamato and the Iowa class, to destroyers and armed merchants. Have fun :salute: |
Thanks...
Been having fun blasting the enemy to hell with the big guns in career mode... on a side note... I can't get the alarm to shut up in any of the ships, every 10 seconds or so it goes off (this is after the first time I sight the enemy, and then it stays on)... any ideas? |
Uhmmm ....Rig for Silent Running?

It is not set to loop but it certainly does. Peabody |
Excellent... alarm problems solved... now wondering if someone can point me in the direction of of increasing the range at which my main guns fire (I'm in the Iowa), seems like they don't engage a target past 6000 yards, now we all know that they had a range of 28+miles... so I'd like to at least see 15000 yards since that is about the maximum visual range the game models.
Right now I'm being out ranged by DDs. |
Also you HAVE NOT played this game until you play in the Iowa under the RFB supermod with the sound turned up... dear god, so that's what it must have felt like (at least as close as I'll ever get).

New Jersey
Get yourself to Camden, NJ and visit the BB New Jersey there... You'll never regret it. A great bunch of guys there to chat with and get a personal tour if it's a slow day...

Going to try and visit Her soon. Might get a bit misty eyed Just seeing Her standing watch over Arizona. Unfortunately Iowa seems to be having more trouble finding a permanent Home, That is just not right :nope: |

IMHO all four should never have been decommissioned... heavy naval guns have a unique destructive force and unique ability to project power that has been lost now. I believe the Missouri is the only Naval unit to have an Army brigade attempt to surrender to it. http://www.facebook.com/photo.php?pi...69&id=19508200 |
