Deck Gun Selection Problem

I have recently blown the dust off my Silent Hunter III game to replay it with the GWX mod, which by the way I am very impressed with :D Its like a whole new game for me.

Anyways, I have a problem where hitting F10 will not select the deck gun for me. Ive tried all I can think of, but I cant get to the deck gun to fire it manually. Letting the ai crews fire it works fine, but now that the merchants are comming with guns on them, I want to be able to manually fire the deck gun in order to kill the guns before I go in for the kill.

Is there a work around for this problem, or is it just my game?

WELCOME ABOARD!:sunny:

I think it's just your game, as F10 gets there fine for me.

One thing you can do is look in the game files, under Data/Cfg/Commands_en. Scroll down to

[Cmd19]
Name=Deckgun_camera
Ctxt=1
MnID=0x3F020005
Key0=0x79,,"F10"
Page=0x38000000,3707
GoBack=Conning_deck_camera

That's the way it should look. If it looks different then you need to change it.

I checked the file and the text was correct. However I drew inspiration from your post and took the key line from emergency surface and swaped it with the deck gun selection. I loaded up my game, and sure enough F10 would not cause the boat to emergency surface, but E will allow me to select the deck gun :D

I got tired of having to pull along side the merchant ship in darkness and take out their cannons with my 37mm before destroying it with the deck gun. Was tedious and dangerous work.:arrgh!:

Congratulations! Now you're a modder!:rock:

Did you move both lines?
MnID=0x3F020005

Nope. I just swaped the line with the word key in it.

I could be wrong, but I think it needs the MnID line so it will know where to look.

I thought there was a well-known problem with some of the higher numbered function keys being disabled when you do certain changes to the screen resolution. I've never changed my resolution so I don't have any direct experience.

Here's a quote from the documents for the Silent Hunter 3 profile for Shoot 1.6.4 voice command:

Quote:

Symptom: I’m using dx9res10 to change my game resolution and I can’t take a screen shot or make an animation
Solution: Unfortunately, these two functions, CTRL F11 and SHIFT F11 are disabled when using dx9res10, along with F9 and F10 and any CTRL/SHIFT combination with these keys. These functions are hard coded into the game, and cannot be remapped. Sorry.
The above is likely outdated, as there are workarounds, as you've found by swapping the emergency surface command. But the problem with the function keys remains, and several people have commented on it.

Good point! I've never paid any attention to those threads, simply because I still play on an ancient-of-days 19" CRT monitor.:D

Sounds like that was my problem then. I had to mod the resolution cause I play on a 27" widescreen lcd. The game looks great though at 1600x1024, and I force on 16x AA :D

Seems to be working fine now after I swaped out the keys. Now if I can just figure out why my AA gunners cant hit anything Id be good to go.
