So does this mean the game wont be finished??

With all the negative results streaming from reviews and consumers im guessing UBI wont finish the rest of the game? I have not purchased yet (waiting for the price to go down...dramatically) but i know that the game supposedly finishes in May 1943.. or 42? Im not sure.. But since Sh5 is a complete bust you think UBI will release 1943-1945?

Now i dont want this to turn into another slamfest on the game, i already know how dissapointed i would be if i bought Sh5 at 59.99... So logically speaking is UBI going to finish it up/add more boats/ just add to the game period? I kno mods could properly crack the code and continue on from 1943, but i would like something a lil official.. or maybe not if its coming from UBI :nope:

Why should it be? SH3 and SH4 aren't finished, unless you mean in a different sense.

It will probably never be perfect, but given the supposed state of the scripting, it may really be more moddable than anything else. I don't know, but I still have high hopes, for more patches and good modding.

We'll see.

Oh, and right now Amazon.com has it for $27.99.

I suspect a good indication of how well the developers can get this game into reasonable shape can be gleaned from how good Silent Hunter 4 was after it's 4 patches up to version 1.4 (five patches if you include the expansion pack).

What's the concensus opinion on the quality of SH4 after those patches? I binned the game around the second patch because it was too frustrating :)

Did the developers do a good job with SH4 patch support? How long did it take them to get to patch 1.4? Was the end result worthy of the contents of your wallet? I'm also talking about stock content, not how much modders twisted the thing into shape.

I got SH5 for £19.99 three days ago. At that price I thought I'd give the series one last try after the dismal experience with SH4. That's what happens when you cut corners with game development and release overly buggy products. Not as many people rush out to buy the latest versions on release day or buy expansion packs, so sales are very slow and depleted. And if you continue to push out unreasonably buggy products they eventually avoid your franchise altogether, utlimately killing it off and blaming it on the the fact sales performance was continuously poor, as though it's the customers fault and not theirs.

I really haven't enjoyed a decent subsim since the days of Sonalysts' Sub Command :(

well im talking about finishing the rest of the game... Isnt there other campaign "clickable missions" that are blacked out until a patch/addon is released? Can somebody post a pic of the campaign map or starting new campaign screen so i can see it again..

To be honest i had fun with sh4 after first and second patch, but pacific wasnt really my style... Once that UBM came out and then the amazing Operation Monsoon mod came out it was definately worth it. Unfortunately my cd scratched so i gotta run out and buy a new one for about 9 bucks lol. It can hold me out for a year or two before Sh5 is in a good state.

SH5 1.2 with TheDarkWraths_UI mod is very playable now. Better that SH3 and 4 vanilla. Sure there are a few bugs.... just annoying bugs, nothing that breaks the game. Unlike before patch 1.2.

And with hopefully more patches and alot more mods, this game could be the best SH game ever made.

Campaign beyond 1943..... Its possible that UBI may not release this (if sales are bad) BUT i beleive that modders would be able to mod that in... So it shouldnt be a problem.

You do not need the disk to play SH4. Think that was patched in 1.2

Salvadoreno 05-15-10 10:36 PM

ya unfortunately for me my old sh4 disk was scratched, bought it on steam, steam corrupts mods, and now i gotta buy it again on disk.. lol..:yeah:

Of course I was sort of joking in my previous post. With the patches there are still things to complain about in SH3 and SH4, but overall both are very enjoyable.

I suspect it will be the same with SH5.

I bought SHIV right after it came out. Played it for a little bit, but shelved it until the Convoy bug was patched. You hit any ship with one torpedo and the whole convoy dropped speed to 1 knot, to me that was game breaking. IIRC, that was not fixed until 1.3 or 1.4. But on the whole, SHIV, after 1.4, I thought to be a good game. I also, recall having to beg, ie. petition, for the 1.4 patch too, that soured me on purchasing anymore Ubisoft games.

SHIII and SHVI were both decent games after the final patch. Now the question remains will SHV make it to 1.4.........

Did the patch do that? I assumed the Ubisoft DRM was basically the reason why you don't need to have the DVD inserted? My other two games with this DRM, Splinter Cell: Conviction and Asassin's Creed 2 also didn't need the DVD from day one.

SabreHawk 05-16-10 10:24 AM

Patch had nothing to do with having the disk in the drive to play, you have never had to have it in to play.

Sailor Steve 05-16-10 10:28 AM

SH3's DRM was Starforce. It caused trouble with some folks' computers, needed the disc in the drive, and was eventually removed. Cheap versions you buy today don't have it, nor do they need the disc in the drive.

SH4 came with SecureRom. Same story, and after sales died down it was removed and the disc no longer required.

SH5 doesn't require the disc, but does require a permanent internet connection, which some consider to be more insidious than the previous two. We're hoping it will eventually be removed as well.

Maybe its my comp?? because when i run the mods i have to push "do not auto update this game" via the steam properties menu of the game. However it always ends up going back to "Always Update" when i start it up... So i eventually get CTDs and everything else even when i reinstall and retry mods..

kylania 05-16-10 04:09 PM

I think Steam used to overwrite/delete files that it didn't think were supposed to be there, hence the "mods don't work with steam" belief. Now though you can turn off "auto-update" with Steam games, so that shouldn't happen anymore. Then again, it's Steam. :)
