Blockade Of Germany

Not a fan of these mission would rather have a area to patrol and sink what I can, but seeing they are in the game I've tried to complete them. On the subject of the BOG you have to sink 5 AMC I take it that means Armed Merchant Ships, thing is from mid Dec 39 to Mid Feb 40 I've been asked to patrol marked areas in that area from North of Scotland to the South East coast of Iceland. 3 months I've sank 5 Merchants all unarmed, I've not came across any in that patrol area. But I did sink 2 Capital Ship , NW of Lerwick I was sitting on station and they sailed right into my sights about 1000mts right across my bow.

Q is , anyone else doing this mission get the 5 AMC in that patrol area ? In 1.01 I bagged 3 of them in the same area but with little contacts coming into the area and the ones that did were unarmed I was wondering if there is a time-date in 1.02 to arm merchants.

AMC = Armed merchant cruiser

Basically an auxilliary cruiser, wont be part of a convoy carrying cargo but a designated warship carrying out patrols watching for blockade breakers in RL and ingame too
Usually sail in pairs from what I have seen or sometimes 3s
Rarely seen in convoys as an escort

Oh I hear ya, I been on this one quite a spell and only found one so far. There have been many merchant ships pass through and I've had to pass them up unless by deckgun cause I cant waste torps on them as I'll need them for these warships.
The one I did bag I nearly didn't get him due to the weather and heavy seas. And I learned my lesson to pay attention to whether I have salvo selected or not too............
Wasted three fish on that guy cause I only ment to fire one more at him after two weren't enough. And I think it might have went down with the first two but I didn't give it a chance to. But I was gonna lose him if I didnt fire as he was too fast to catch up to in this sea.

I've been repsitioned twice, and on the second order to reposition it didn't set a new area, and indicates objective complete even though the indicator bar is only 1/4 full.

Early on when I first arrived up here I wasted three fish on a merchant cause I didn't know better about the type of ships I was after since then the objective only said "sink 5 ships" with no indication of type.

Now down to five fish left, and thats not gonna be enough so will have to go back and reload to finish up.

Swing by Loch Ewe. You'll be happy.

walsh2509 05-14-10 08:51 PM

Do they count ? I thought that had to be sunk in the marked area , Loch Ewe is not in that area.

SabreHawk 05-14-10 09:02 PM

Oh im sure they do, Kylaina wouldn't advise this if they didn't. I'd take his word fer it any day. A trusted mate, he is.:smug:

Yup, I got two of mine north of Scotland, but the other 3 I got right here.

Come to think of it, the one I did find and sink was just north of Scotland, was early on a day after I sank the merchant. Then I headed northwesterly and got into even rougher seas.
Then BDU repositioned me even further north, what do they know though.:O:
Seas are getting less rough the further south I go, that'll help if it holds.

Well we be headed back south now, about 24hrs away. I bet I can catch them out farther in deeper water, that was where I found the other one.

kylania, were the 3 AMCs you have marked in that screenie just sitting there close together like they were moored?

For me, they were. I got in there with 4-5 DDs patrolling the harbor. For some reason they wouldn't attack, so I just ran in on the surface, fired all my loaded torpedoes which sunk two, and I shelled the other. Only the AMCs put up a fight, and that only with small arms fire. The DDs spotlighted me, but refused to engage.

Weird AI in this game.

kylania 05-26-10 08:21 PM

Yeah, some tankers were there too.

I didn't run in on the surface, I squeezed in through 15-18m of water at 1kt the whole way in! I didn't attack them while they were moored though, some people said that was not counting. I attacked them as they left, where my u-boat is in that picture.

Der SchattenJager 05-26-10 10:04 PM

They counted for me.

got all 4 of 5 in that area, then heading to my patrol point bagged another, got to the patrol point, sunk a freighter, and it cleared my patrol objective, now for the carrier hunt. only doing this first one then im gonna work on the 100k merchant sinking tasks till the norway invasion.

So how long did you have to sit there for them to move?! I have been at the mouth of the harbor (about 13km away from your pos on the map) for THREE days watching 3 moored AMCs and a tanker (as well as 5 DD's ...4 which are sitting still around different points of the harbor, and 1 patroling just at the mouth)???

I R E A L L Y hate these "missions"......

Faamecanic 07-09-10 07:56 PM

Anyone know?? Anyone ever wait for them to get "underway"? Or will it count if I torpedo them as they are stationary?

zekicoli 07-09-10 08:56 PM

there is four ship and they waited there which you show 2 of from this 4 is the ship which we must sunk..ı close to them and sink them is not to hard
