Some 26 WWI uboats were brought into the Medway and abandoned where they presumably remain under the mud to this day.

The just cut the USS Orion into scraps here in Baltimore about 2 years ago. One fella I work with on the Torsk was a crewman on the USS Orion. He hated to see her go.

We are allowed to do ship strips for parts on the Torsk. Many of the same parts were used across the ships/subs. Other than that these are auctioned to be cut up or used to create an artificial reef.

^ When a smokeboat knows the end is near it finds a nice shady spot to contemplate it life before being towed to the breakers or out to sea for a SINKEX.

Yep, this is where your ships go america! lol (well, some of the ghost fleet is actualy a reserve fleet, that bb is also in a "if needed" status IIRC)

I'm suprised the RN aren't buying some of these with the intention of refurbishing them :DL

Some are still in good shape Jim. They get mothballed but are still loaded with toxins that pollute. The James River fleet has been complained about for years. Those that are on the block for sale to scrapyards are opened evey now and then for stripping of items. A group from the Torsk Volunteer association will make a trip to strip what parts we can use on the Torsk. Some get salvaged and used as a museum. Others sold for scrap that usually make razor blades.

I would drive by the USS Coral Sea in Baltimore everyday as she was scrapped for blades.
