Im almost 100% sure that this story is omitting precious details - like they all tend to do.
in CHECKED luggage... the luggage that goes into the inaccessible cargo compartment of the aircraft, you CAN carry pistols, swords, daggers, rifles etc in your CHECKED luggage.
IF this is the case, the man has done nothing wrong in my opinion.
However, if in fact they are talking about his carry on bag, i would say that unless he has managed to sneak into the secured side of the airport somehow; it would be next to impossible for him to get these items through even the most half witted security check point.
In my travels within the airline industry i have had the bone heads at the TSA throw away my chicken noodle soup - as i stood in the security line - IN FULL UNIFORM as if i were going to use it for some illegal or questionable purpose. :shifty:
the TSA agent said "I'm going to have to throw this away"
I said "Why exactly do you have to throw my lunch away?"
He said "Its considered to be a liquid or gel in a container that is larger than 3 ounces."
I replied "What? You realize that im flying the plane right?"
(everyone within ear shot chuckled)
he says "I'm sorry but thats our policy" and chunks it into the trash
the policy changed for uniformed crew within a matter of days. :smug:
Im just glad he didnt know about my deodorant, my soap, my shaving cream, my tooth paste and all the other stuff you should be able to travel with without hassle
with such an idiocracy in mind... im starting to think he could have walked through security explaining "its ok, im a ninja"
EDIT:
TLAM Strike beat me to it... if your going to some of these countries you better declare everything you can think of.
