Mass Effect 1 to much for my system?
I was giving the collectors edition of ME2 by my gf, but I have never played ME1, so I went out and got it.
I am trying to play it but after a couple of minutes the FPS drops down alot. To un-playable conditions. Thoughts? Cause I would hate not to be able to play ME2 My system: ASUS G71Gx-RX05 Intel Core 2 Duo P8700 / 2.53 GHz 6 GB RAM NVIDIA GeForce GTX 260M |
It seems I hit 100% CPU when playing,
settings in game: Resolution: 1440x 900 Aspect Ratio: Widescreen (16:10) Particle Effects: High Texture Detail: High Filtering Mode: Point Dynamic Shadows VSync Anyway to get a usable FPS? |
Can't be the game. If you can handle Mass Effect 2 I don't see why your rig should not be able to handle Mass Effect 1. Always patch the game.
|
I have not tried ME2. I want to play ME1 first. ME1 patched to 1.2

AA on? If so, turn off, FPS booster right there...
V-Sync off? On? Turn off for FPS boost... the most frequent scenario is a game (full screen)...and the reason why the fps decreases is because the video system applies more computational power to obtain vsync........ideally if your screen refresh rate is 60 when you apply vsync your game will only display 60 fps... Another thing that's a fps killer is Anti-Virus! Turn off... see if things improve. Update once you've tried these 3 options and let us know. |

Anti-Virus will be turned off now. |
FPS is doing better now, but still unusable. I did everything you said. Saying FPS was 10 might be too high of a number atm.

How well do you run SH3 and SH5?
ME1 is quite a bit of an older game and if you run those two fine I do not have a clue why ME1 is running poorly :06: |
SH3: runs amazingly!
SH4: runs the same as SH3, I had an issue with FPS a while back, but I fixed that by raising my laptop off my desk by about 1/2 inch to give better air flow. SH5: Do not have:D Half Life 2(all episodes): same as above Americas Army(latest version): same as above MS FSX: average to good frame rate CS:S: runs great Blu Ray movies: run great ME1: UN PLAYABLE |
@ivank:
have you checked their forum? For a workaround? mysterious spikes general troubles, check here first I'd say you might have a better chance of finding a solution over there. Hope this helps. PS Just thinking, try lowering your resolution (monitor). |
You could try to lower all of your settings. If this doesn't result in a FPS improvement than there is something else porked.
If you get good FPS rates you might want to set one option higher at a time and see how this effects FPS and whether you can get the game to run in an acceptable way (both graphics and FPS wise). BTW you can select a global AA rate for all games with the Nvidia control panel. http://foto.arcor-online.net/palb/al...3963313337.jpg |
ME1 is a bit sluggish, not that well optimised, you get small freezes and sudden drops on FPS for a few seconds. I have the same happening, but can run ME2 smoothly.
|
Disabled AA, everything running smooth now! Thanks guys!
P.S. what is AA |
AA is Anti Aliasing. Smooths out jagged edges.
