Whats going on with my weather.....

Does RSRD change weather settings at all ?

Since installing I seem to be in the middle of a heatwave. Since leaving port at the earliest date till now, 22nd December, its been Clouds Clear, Precipitation None, Fog None, Wind Speed 0 mps direction 140 :hmmm:

I am running out of suncream !!!

RSRDC has nothing to do with the weather afaik

Sammi79 05-02-10 07:42 AM

Yeah, the weather does seem a 'little' static most of the time. I consider myself lucky if I have any wind (or waves or rain) at all for the first 4-6 weeks of any patrol. Trouble is, I can't find any reference to which files are involved. I think there is a minor entry in the campaign/mission txt files but its far from being a control just something simple and seemingly insignificant. I thought maybe since the game was designed for the pacific environment that the weather was hard coded to be mostly sunny :cool: also I think there may be some change depending on how far north or south you are. I play U-Boats in the atlantic and I think (I could be wrong, corrections welcome!) it is most unrealistic to have 4-6 weeks of flat calm in the deep atlantic anywhere north of Britain.

I does change occasionally though just it seems to kind of get stuck for a long time - sometimes the whole patrol... May be a bug, the previous games in the series had troublesome bugs with their weather systems. Anyway unless someone finds out why this happens or how to 'fix' it my watch crew will remain in their shades :|\\

The keys are in scene.dat

Check out Daves work here: http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?t=124608

/edit:

Try out these values, very varying weather guarenteed...

WindHeadingChangeSpeed = 0,03
WindSpeedChangeSpeed = 0,03

RandomWind.
ChangeTimeMin = 2,0
ChangeTimeMax = 2,0
RandomWindSpeedMax = 0,01
RandomWindSpeedVariationSpeed = 0,009
RandomWindHeadingVariationSpeed = 0,009
RainIntensityChangeSpeed = 0,01

Sammi79 05-02-10 08:22 AM

Thankyou Jan, I shall check out that file directly! It would appear the lack of change is related to time compression somewhat although I left a game running in real time for 24+ hours once to test and nothing changed then either... If I find a reasonable workaround I will post how here.

Uh Oh

Be careful what you wish for. :)

Do I hear Monsoon warnings on the radio?
:ping:

Jan Kyster 05-02-10 08:31 AM

If you try the values added above, you'll never see stuck weather again... :D

And if you would like to test my scene.dat (ver. 132.21f http://i189.photobucket.com/albums/z...s/rolleyes.gif ), it's uploaded here: http://www.mediafire.com/file/motddndztid/scene.zip

Sammi79 05-02-10 08:53 AM

Thanks again guys, Jan I DL'd your scene.zip to take a look, I've been tweaking this and other game files to achieve various things with some success just recently. My game now plays pretty much spot on in my opinion albeit some minor issues like this one.

So will this change go from blazing sun to typhoons everyday or is it not that harsh :DL

Might give it a go......All my deck watch are off sick due to extreme sun exposure :D

Many years ago when I moved from northern US to Florida I felt the same way. That's just the way it is in the subtropics and even more so in the tropics.

I've been playing RSRD/RFB for several patrols now and the weather changes much like it does here in Florida. So I find it quite normal. What is disturbing is loading a save that was in the middle of a storm and find it dead calm.

Sammi79 05-02-10 12:12 PM

Well those changes definitely work, started a new campaign to test, calm sunny for 3 days then on day 4, high winds, rolling seas and some clouds! this has never happened to me before (at least not before week 5 of a patrol) and seems much more realistic. Thanks Jan Kyster again I had looked at that file before but knew not what to change.

Chubster 05-02-10 12:16 PM

Im sure everything is realistic and it was sunny for a lot of the time....but hey its a game and I want rain..:O:

That said I will probably be sea sick as I have stable views off and I will be cursing the day I mentioned this :DL

Try being in HEAVY seas in an S-Boat.... its a wild ride. I'm playing the alaskan command part of FOTRS
