Shifting base to Silent Hunter 5
Attention Captain on Deck :salute: Hey sailors, this is probably my last post in this sub-forum. I'm shifting base to V with all hatred in my guts to my friend who bought me a solid copy of the game (the real thing ). I understand that experience is a bit more goofy compared to SHIV, but the idea of walking around the compartments is itching me.. I know there wont be any: -Atlas Echolot -Manual TDC -Readible Recog manual with all the amenities like draft and mast bubblech.. -Techy torpedo settings for course, AoB... But I will take the shot anyways... The reason is that graphics and VFX are waaayy better than SHIV in my humble opinion.. I dont like the idea of point and shoot or align the timers thingy.. But I wanna feel like the true skipper.. ANd the water is waaay cooler compared to SHIV.. I'm not trying to impress or lure people into buying this Beta crapshoot... I'm just fond of trying new things... I will shift posting to SH5BOTA sub-forum and stay intouch with our great skippers, including Admiral8Q, Ducimus, Steiger, and all other esteemed capts.. Guys I will truly miss you.. :yeah::salute::salute::salute::salute::salute::sal ute::salute::salute::salute::salute::yeah: |
Whether you change your mind after awhile and come back, or everything works out fine for you with SH5, have fun!:sunny:
Sooner or later I'll be there too. Just not until I can actually play it.:D |

Psst! It's a little known secret around here, but there are people who play more than one subsim. It just kind of depends on what the tastes of the day call for. |

Good for you. Even though I don't have SHV I lurk the forum. Keeping a close eye so I can make the jump too. The idea of roaming the boat has been my dream for years. And the water...oh the water, you can smell the salt can't you?
For me making the move requires this; 1- update to my hardware to handle it 2- UBI patch the game well enough to be payable 3- UBI remove the DRM (sudden death trap) 4- mods make this the best sim ever 1 and 4 is a given if 2 and 3 are realized |

If you like having 10 torpedo tubes and radar that actually works you'll be back eventually. If not then you probably won't. :haha:
edit: BTW, hope you have a good internet connection. :O: |
That's funny because trying SHV (and modding as much as I could, main reason why I bought the game) I am actually going THE OTHER direction: returning to SH4+OM.
While the SHV has all the eyecandy you want as a game (simulation) it really sucks. Considering all the bugs on top of it, it is not worthy polishing SV4+OM shoes. I have been spending more and more time playing SH4 recently. SH3+GWX would be my choice if there was a way how to run it in WS 1920x1080 (maybe that day will come eventually). I don't care too much about eyecandy but I do about playability (that's why I still play some of the classics in DOSBox). While I can see you leaning toward trying SHV, I believe that all the "wow-factor" of the graphics will wear off soon and you will be running back to SH4. :DL Lastly, if I may make a suggestion, at least wait until (hopefully) tomorrow's 1.2 patch so you won't have to restart your career. Good luck, and sink'em all! :salute: |
