Creating my Own Playable Subs

Hi there,

After seeing some of Silverwolfs work, I would like to try and make my own playable sub (from scratch.. such as creating a Victor III with some bells and whistles or a sub of my own design..).

After reading some of the stickies I'm under the impression I need S3D? Or am I totally wrong.. How would I go about creating new models to implement into the game?

3ds or any other 3d program to create the mesh,

then s3d to clone the sub and import your model.

tutorials about importing/cloning subs are out here on subsim.

Just send Autodesk $3495 and they will gladly send you 3DSMax. Blender has a confusing interface but has a lot of capabilities. I know there are some using free software such as Misfit.
I haven't heard any comments from people using Truespace.

well haha seeing as i'm going to university next year and still haven't got a job... 3.5 grand is kinda tough for a game lol

MisFit will do the work in 3D.
And it's free.
Not sure of it's UV stuff.

Never cared for TrueSpace myself.
Looks to cartoony for my tastes.
So never gave it a chance.

Blender takes to much time just to find files I found.
So I dumped that.

If your going to be a Student?
You may be able to get 3DS Max or Maya at a discounted rate.

if you are scratchbuilding models, Misfit Model 3D is the way to go, I use it and everyone thinks I'm a halfway decent 3d modeler :D
()

UVW mapping is the only thing it doesn't do, I'm still paying off a friend for 3ds MAX (No idea how HE got it) and he hasn't been asking me for any more payments and since there's not a contract in writing... alright. next subject

I use MM3D to make the models,
and then I use 3DS to bake an AO map onto them.

Great idea Privateer, but one point, "read the fine print". Some acedemic software has a limited time use or a subscription. So it is basically meant to be at a lower price only while you are a student then it expires. NOT all are like this but some are.

I just took a quick look at Acedemic Superstore and they list a modeling and animation bundle for $349 includes 3Dmax, Maya and some others for anyone that may want them. But even that is a LOT for a game, but if it is something you may want to get into, you could check if it is US only and possibly call about exact details.
