purpose of medics?

Other than healing wounded crew, is there any purpose/advantage of medics?

Being Medics/Doctors they were not allowed to have tasks which involved any type of fighting, like torps, watch, etc. They instead manned the radio and sometimes the sonar.

They can also check and treat the men for lice and crabs ;)
"you have the crabs you dirty boy,a whole army of them!"
"give him a go with the gun powder!" <--- from Das Boot if you are unfamiliar,a hilarious scene.

When placed in the quarters with others, they reduce the mens fatigue faster.

The other purpose medics serve in SH3 is they increase the rate your crew's endurance recovers while off duty.

Note: The medic has to be in crew quarters with crew to speed up the rate they recover

Edit: oh looks like timmy beat me

TBH I've never valued them much as members of the crew, similarly the Helmsman.

Agreed. Speaking of helsman, I guess there is no purpse in giving pettyofficers a helmsman skill? I do plan on promoting my medic to stabsoberbootman (I sure hope I spelt that right)

I've spent a lot of time researching fatigue in both stock game and GWX and I can't find any difference between fatigue recovery with or without a medic. I have a medic in the bow rest, and none in the stern rest, and in both places sailors and warrant officers recover to full at the same time, although I've seen warrant officers recover before sailors do in both compartments.

Is there anything special I should be doing to see any effect?

Paul - I sld be familiar with this! best scene in it, other than the hunting of ships!

Sorry for stating the obvious but they do help heal the wounded. If you don't have them then your wounded crew can potentially die or at best remain unfit for duty. Imagine that happening to your hydrophone operator. :nope:

Definitely worth having one guy with this specialty.

I may be imagining things, but I've got a medic in the stock campaign and he seems to assist in recovery when compared with the people in the other crew compartment. The guy may be fooling me for all I know, but he's certainly able to put on a good appearance.

:hmmm:

I use them all the time, to really notice it you have to have a higher ranking pettyofficer (or better yet an officer with medic skill, like I had my first time around)with medals. I find that speeds up the recovery quite a bit

I think I may enlist a new navigator with that skill:yep:

The medic is an unfinished portion of the game which has great potential, but has never been developed. For a discussion see: http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?t=140796
