It will be interesting to see who they choose to replace him as he is already very liberal.

I doubt they can affect much in the way of balance then with him.

Platapus 04-09-10 01:28 PM

Why do you say he is "Very Liberal" He is a Republican who sometimes rules with the liberals and sometimes with the conservatives on the bench.
He was a liberal leaning moderate in my book and that is not a bad thing.

Just going off of what I had read on Yahoo news. They said he was the most liberal leaning of all the judges of the four on the panel.

The man is a liberal but fear not another liberal will fill his seat.

Stevens is a Republican but he is a liberal jurist, in fact he is often referred to as "The Chief Justice of the Liberal Supreme Court" One semester in college I did a paper(could turn it into a book I guess, 1051 pages) on SCOTUS, which entailed quite a bit of research of the justices naturally.Stevens is a liberal jurist but did make some suprising votes.Of course his big flops were Bush v Gore when he wrote a scathing dissent and was wrong to do so.The other case that I know off top of my head is Scott v Harris in which he was the lone dissenter 8-1, which it really showed his liberal side in dissenting from a common sense opinion.

Hopefully this will be the last chance obama will get to stock the court with crazies. We need more like Scalia and Thomas.

I'm a liberal conservative. If that makes any sense.

That's like saying: "I want a humanitarian like the Marquis De Sade."

Not at all, his secret private army of nazi dentists will ensure that he holds office forever and packs the court with all his buddies.

:har: yea, two intelligent pro constitution justices from our high court should be compared with Marquis De Sade, real nice.

What type of justice would you suggest? Another Sotomayor or Ginsberg? :damn:

People have to be kept informed about the imminant threat to democracy and the constitution.

Imminent threats to the constitution? What threats do potential U.S. Supreme Court Justices pose to the Bunreacht na hÉireann? :hmmm:

If you invested half as much time in the well-being of your own society as you spend here lambasting America, you sir, would live in a sublime utopia.

Your vitriol against a government in which you do not even reside truly boggles the mind.

Your reading and comprehension problems are mind boggling.

BTW if you want to make a point about the Irish constitution please try and use a source that isn't out of date. 2002 is just so passe.:|\\
