Unloading torps.

I'm sure I've done this before, but never noticed. I was desperate for torps to attack but all my aft tubes were damaged. When I dragged the torps back to the storage slot, I got the message they were unloading. The torps unloaded just as they loaded showing percentage over time as they unloaded..

Course when they unloaded they just started reloading again. It sure would be nice to unload them to the storage slots, then with auto load off, you could choose what tube to place them, that way if one tube was good, you could actually use your torps as you would in realistic battle.

Just seeing that they can unload, wonder if someone could mod it to work as it should.

See that little button on the far right? Thats auto loading. Click it to turn it off.

Personally, i always uncheck autoloading if i have more then 1 type of torpedo in my boat. Im really nit picky about my tube arrangments, because i like to shoot salvos in a logical manner. so i place which torpedos go in which tubes. usually paired in three groups of two, or two groups of three.

edit:
The downside to this, is you have to remember to load the tubes each and every time you fire them.

Got that, not what I'm talking about exactly. Say the torps are already loaded, but tubes later damaged. Just wondering since it shows unloading if there was a way to get them back in storage out of the tube, then you could put them in an undamaged tube.

Make sense....

If I am reading it right, Ducimus is right. In your first post you said you unloaded THEN you turned off "auto loading" You need to turn off auto BEFORE you unload them.
I have not tried this with a damaged tube, if I am taking damage, I am evading not attacking. (usually).

But the way the game works, if you have a tube in storage and auto load in on, the torpedo is assigned to an empty tube and then loading starts. So even though the torpedo is not actually IN the tube it is assigned to it and will load even after the auto load is turned off. So as you unload the torpedo, it is reassigned to the empty tube.
So turn off the autoloading before you unload and then you can put them where you want manually.

I'm not explaining it right obviously...try again.

Forget auto load...cut it off you still have the problem. Let's say you have it off, but already have your tubes all filled, but none in storage. You have none left but these. Then say all but one tube gets damaged while loaded.

Even though it shows they unload, they don't unload to the storage racks, just unload and start reloading in the same tube. If you could unload them to the storage rack, you could then with auto load off load them one at a time in the good tube.

Sure you could leave auto load off and not load the tubes in case they get damaged, but who would want to leave tubes unloaded for battle just in case. Obvious you fill all spaces in dock so at any battle the tubes could get damaged while loaded.

Now if my tubes do get damaged and I have some in storage not already loaded, I will certainly cut auto load off so they don't load in damaged tubes, but this just applies to wanting to use torps already loaded in damaged tubes.

Even though they show unloading on the bar..they don't go back to storage, but remain in the damage tube and reload...no good there.

Obvious it had to apply to the compartment only, not trying to move torps forward to aft..ect.

:hmmm: I would assume then it has something to do with the fact the tube is damaged. Like I said I never tried on a damaged tube, but they shouldn't reload with autoload off. So maybe if the tube gets damaged you can't unload it for some reason.?? I can't think of what the problem would be. Sorry I couldn't be any help, but if I do discover something I will let you know.

I'm not sure..

See, I never noticed the unloading command before when I tried to drag a torp out of the tube back into storage.

I have empty storage space forward now with no damage. Even with auto load off I can't even get the unload command to come up when I try to drag it back. It seems the only time I get the unload command, even though it doesn't unload is when a tube is damaged.

Try to unload one with no damage with auto load off and see if it goes back into storage,, mine don't..

Edit..Not really paying attention I went back to my save and noticed when I hit the auto load off it wouldn't go off. I forget this sometimes happens with I alt tab out a lot. I reloaded and it works fine...but now to see if I can unload a damage tube with auto load off. It still won't unload a undamgaged tube with auto load off...course I've alt tabbed out of this series 100 times so may be bugged.

Ok, I figured it out, just not paying attention.

You can in fact unload the tubes. I didn't see the command come up this time, but they did in fact unload into storage with auto load off.

I'll have to wait until my tubes get damaged again to see if they will unload with damage. I'm using a fresh patrol, I think my last one got bugged due to reloading a 100 times testing..a fresh game things worked.

If you can in fact unload damaged tubes now how great that would be, they could now be used in a good tube if you have one...

Dummy me......

I think it would make more sense that once a tube is damaged, you couldn't unload it. If the tube is jammed open, opening the inner tube door would flood the boat. If the tube has taken physical damage, it may leak and flood the sub, or te torpedo may have taken damage itself or be jammed in the tube.

Not that I mind being able to unload and use the torpedo in another tube.

I can't count the number of times I've brought one or two fish back to port in damaged tubes. What makes it worse, I think lurker has it programmed into RSRDC to send a BIG FAT merchant across my path every time it happens.:damn:

Well, I just went out and took some damage. (A LOT more than I wanted to.:har:) but you can unload "destroyed" tubes, so I would assume you should be able to unload damaged ones. The trouble is if you for example have tube 2 empty and no damage and say 1,3,and4 are damaged. If you grab the torpedos from 1,3 and 4 and drag them to empty slots in reserves. Then drag a torpedo into tube 2, you will have to wait until 1, 3 and 4 get removed before 2 will load. So it will look like nothing is happening. And if you unload 1,3, and 4 BEFORE you turn off autoload then you will wait until 1, 3 and 4 are unloaded then reloaded before the torpedo will go into tube 2.
In other words it matters in what order you do things. If you have a good tube and it is empty, turn off autoload and load the good tube BEFORE you do anything else. And if you have several reserves, you may want to wait for the right time to unload the damaged ones. It will take time to unload them, and while that is happening the tube that works will not get loaded.

Thanks Pea...yea playing with it order does mean something and it works.
Glad to know damage tubes work....now I don't have to find out...:haha:

Thanks for your help.
