Medals for nothing?
 

Geeez! I did many succeful patrols and got no medals or promotions and now i did my 5th patrol, spent 20 days on sea, wasted fuel and torps, only scracthed a fleet carrier, and arrived base fuel tanks empty and half of torps unused.

Still my crazy bosses awarded me with German cross of gold and knight cross! Where is logic?

Renown I guess... You've just passed the level for that medal.

Or maybe he want some less appealing favours in return.

2 medals out of one empty patrol with only 100 renown as result?

You might just got over some magic number of total renown, e.g. 1500 or something. Wasn't it one badge and one medal?

Renown is 4340 now so it was 4240 before that empty patrol. And i got German Cross in Gold and Knight's Cross out of that one patrol. Weird. So yes, a badge and medal.

i bought better engine too awhile, maybe game does not calculate spent renown down?

There's no logic when it comes to awarding medals.

I edited the cfg files to get historically accurate award criteria but no success so far.
In my last career in Okt '39 after the second patrol I received a front clasp,and somehow I always get the front clasp after the second patrol,
but there was no front clasp in RL until '44
So far the best method for me is editing the carrers.cfg in the save games folder.

They could be thinking like the Nobel Peace prize committee and leaving an hidden message here. You've done nothing to deserve it, but they urge you to live up to it.

The medals are just based on total renown.

The parameters for medals and promotion can be changed to dictate when or if ever you receive them.
