but what's the easiest way to embed a screenshot into a forum post?

Upload it to imageshack or somewhere, and then link to it in the post.

what I'm trying to link or upload is a PDF file... :shifty:

First you need to host your image online somewhere. http://imageshack.us is one possible place.

First click the gray button to Browse for your images then click the blue Upload button, as seen here:

Once the image is uploaded you'll see a form field called Direct Link, just copy the URL from there.

They reply to a thread and click the yellow "mountain" button for Images and paste in the Direct Link URL you'd saved earlier and tada!

For files like PDFs, a popular choice is to sign up for an account at http://www.filefront.com/ Once you have an account there you'll be presented with a "Upload now" button. It works similar to above.

I cannot find anywhere in the forun rules if there are restrictions as to the size (dimensions and/or bit size) for photos in threads. (like this one)

Same for photos in the screenshot thread...or is the rule the same?

And lastly, is there a size limit (there must be) for signature images?

It's pretty lenient so far. Personally I love high rez, if it's not 1680x1050+ I don't know why the image was created, but most people don't. :hmmm::O:

The official website limits you to 1024 wide, and that seems to work pretty well here. Personally I'd suggest 1024xwhatever with maybe a link to the full 1920xwhatever or whatever? :yeah:

I use image shack, works great, no real limit and easy to use.

As to size, you can post shots any size. I have posted some as big as 1920x1200, but it takes up too much room on the forum. Generally, 1024x768 is best. i.e:

When you upload to imageshack, it gives you the option to resize the shot. It will even give you the direct code, so you can just cut and paste directly into your post, as I did here.

I would suggest you also convert your shots before you upload them. If you take shots in-game, they are saved as BMPs which can be as big 5-6 MB per shot. You can use a program like "Paint" to re-save the shot as a JPEG which will reduce the size to as little as 30-40 kb, making easier to upload to ImageShack and less of a hassle for users here who have to download the shot.

I used filefront for the PDF. But when I get some screenies, I'll use imageshack.
