Depth charge splash graphic

Small quirky question here:

what happened to the depth charge splash graphic from SH3 whereby the water turned white (e.g., air forced out of it) in a large circle around the DC? Why wasn't this included in SH4? I thought it was a great effect (see below). Anyone know what became of this - the depth charge explosions in SH4 look far less dramatic. My suspicion/fear is that it has something to do with the SH4 water transparency effect...

Air-dropped DC:

Slightly altered version where hedgehogs explode after hitting the bottom:

Same effect but from torpedo impact:

It's an issue I ran into a looong time ago when I was doing some stuff for PE4, so I can't remember the specifics, but it's something like you only get the white disc if there is terrain rendered for the sea bed when the camera is above water. It's hard to explain, but if you look at the 3D damage where there is a hole in a ship, when a torpedo explodes, instead of that part that is missing being water coloured, it's white and that white is part of the explosion disc and it's to do with the way the graphis are handled and the way the shader uses the graphics it receives. It was far too long ago to remember exactly, but they are in there, they just don't get displayed properly.
