Announce special sounds even when not in the game's window?
When I play, I like to work on other applications, and peek on the game's window from time to time.
I want to set things up so when something meaningful like "smoke on the horizon" ; "new sonar contact" ; "enemy plains approaching.." or just "way point reached" will be announced by voice and will heard through the computer speakers even when the focus is not on the game's window. Can I set this up? Must the game be on "Window mode" or "Full screen" will do the trick as well? Thanks, Temujin |
I share the exact same problem. Your best bet is to edit the game files (the init file is the one you're looking for, I believe) so that the game pauses when important things happen (such as a destroyer making an appearance).
Other than that, there's nothing that I know of:-?. |
At least for me in Full Screen mode, when I alt tab it pauses the game. If my computer locks due to AFK time however the game (while alt-tabbed) will disconnect but otherwise just sits there happily paused.

(one can tell a game's become annoying and tedious when the player wants to do something else until something exciting happens...kind of like reading while sitting on the can...)

Have you tried playing in windowed mode, you can then drop the game to the taskbar (or minimizing it by mouse to be very small) this way the game will be still running (unless Ubi failed and made it auto-pause) and you'll hear all the alarms and everything, so when that happens just maximize it, or increase it's size and check if everything is alright.

I am running with Multiple Monitors (3: 1 27" WS center and 1 18" on each side. All Flat Panel LCD). I run the game in Windowed Mod and drag the game to one of the side monitors when I need to do other things. That way I can still see what is happening in game, watch TV and still get things done.
