Last of the C2 merchants goes to the breakers
 

Read in Ships Monthly that the last of the C2 merchant ships has been sent to the breakers. Unfortunately, I jettisoned the magazine on my return from SF to make room, so I don't remember the name.

Still... that one of those things is still banging around 70 years later is pretty interesting, I thought.

I'd have thought there still might be one or two knocking about in third world merchant fleets :hmmm:

Possibly not mind.

I would have thought that someone would have tried to save the very last one.

Probablt some country like Vietnam or North Korea might still have one :hmmm:

Some days ago, while returning from work, I noticed a familiar ship, it turned out to be this one: SS HELLAS LIBERTY. It was decomissioned 10years ago and will be in the Greek Naval Park along AVEROF, the sail of the WW2 submarine PAPANIKOLIS, a Fletcher DD, a 19th century steamer, sailing ships and others:yeah:

how freaking cool is that! I would love to see that ship. Now you started me wonder whats coming through the golden gate here in SF, Im going to pay more attention

In game I was recently attacked (1942) by an american liberty cargo, she had at least one deck gun and a few machine guns

There's a WWII oiler that, several decades after the war, had its bow removed and used in the construction of a Maersk container ship. It was still operating when I last heard.

Also, when I visited Canada about 10 years ago I noticed a converted T-2 tanker operating as a bulk carrier on the Lakes. Unfortunately I couldn't read the name.
