Details, details, details

I just did a walk through of the boat, with reference to The type VII anatomy of a ship opened up.

Wow. This work is fantastic, they left very little detail out of this wonderful reproduction.

If you have a decent schematic of one of these boats, you really should compare what is visible in the game to what is on the document.

It is astonishing.

Good to hear. Amid all the complaints it's good to know something is right with the SH world.

Yes indeed, and I have this same book. I have said elsewhere that they did a very fine job of reproducing the Type VII.
And my hat's off to the 3D modelers and artist's that did this work, they did their research and the work was im sure painstaking.

alexradu89 03-29-10 01:53 PM

Did they now ?:o So what's missing from the real u-boat ? or better yet can you share the schematics with us ? (if it's a virtual document) I can't find any VII A blueprints...nvm found them around here somewhere

SabreHawk 03-29-10 02:24 PM

Well the book we speak of can be found at Amazon.
http://www.amazon.com/Type-VII-U-Boa.../dp/1591148863

It's cover looks a little different from mine but is the same book.
Here is mine.

And it has many drawings and pictures, like this one and it also has a 1/150 foldout plan. And drwaings of not just the ship, but of it's armament, and interiors.

I have that book, it's nice!

alexradu89 03-29-10 02:42 PM

Well can you tell us what has been left out ? I know they didn't introduce the captain's wardrobe, the table where officers ate isn't there either if I'm not mistaken, nor is the toilet

I've the one above but don't recall it having a foldout plan :o

Looks like a trip up into the loft at the weekend :hmmm:

Bilge_Rat 03-29-10 02:52 PM

yes, the interior is very well done. I do not have those books, but comparing the interior with the photos of U-995 available on the net, it looks like a pretty close match.

SabreHawk 03-29-10 03:07 PM

Uhhhhm yes the ward room is the one thing that is not in the SH5 ship.
Sure I'd like to have had that in there, but of course it would serve no purpose other than novelty.
But yes what a nice novelty it would be, but the fat lady hasn't sung yet as far as I can see, and given how long it's taking for the next patch to come along im predicting it'll make a lot of folks happy they bought SH5.

And even if the patch(s) dont produce it all, the mods will.

I will say this though of the area where the ward room would be, is currently unoccupied by anyone sleeping there. It's just a couple of empty bunks, and the wood paneled structure on both sides of them is there, if that says anything.

Hmmm ok I just noticed the one I poasted a link to at Amazon doesn't say anything about a foldout plan, so I noticed there were other formats availble from other sellers listed there., and my version appears. But I dont remember paying that much for my book.

Yes, hats off

I seem to remember several lengthy threads on SH3 saying how this was a 'must have' feature that would be so immersive. Now its here and its good to see it getting some credit.

OK Hand up. How many thought that if the devs did implement it, it would not have been as well implemented as this.

I think that is key point in what Ubi delivered. All the effort directed at the sub model and environment leaving the rest open for modding to hone. They did say it was modder friendly. :D

longam 03-29-10 03:43 PM

I find myself spending more time down the hatch then before. They did fine job giving us the environment needed.

alexradu89 03-29-10 03:44 PM

A ward room with the u-boat shaking sideways somewhere in the middle of the Atlantic ?!:o GIMME !!!:arrgh!:

pythos 03-29-10 04:18 PM

For those asking about the captain's wardroom.

THIS IS NOT A FLEET BOAT.

Fleet boats had amenities U-boats simply did not have the room for.

Both doors for the toilets are modeled, there is one aft and to the left of the torpedo room bulkhead (just like the real thing, and the one in Das Boot), and there is one in the Galley (which is most likely why it was used to store provisions). The door is there, it is lower than the one behind the torpedo room. It is the one that when facing aft, is to the left and closest to the petty officer's bunk room wall. It is the only door that has a small window.

The toilets do not need to be modeled. LOL

Now, there is a captain's "cabin" which is just a curtained off bunk with a desk and cabinet.

The Officer's "mess" is also there, but modeled in the stowed position. It is forward of the captain's bunk. YOu can see the folded table.

I would really like for modders to get our boat to pitch and roll a lot more, the current incarnation is too docile in heavy storms. :)

another item of detail, anyone notice the auxillary steering station in the back of the motor room complete with rudder position indicator? NICE!!
