Mare Nostrum is boring... you may wanna skip it.

After "Happy Times" if you have the option to go to the Med in "Mare Nostrum"... skip it. It's boring as hell.

The only convoys you'll see are small task forces (and there are many), and the campaign objectives are abit... well.. annoying.

4 battleships and 2 carriers? yaeah.... like im going to find all those in time. I had a hard time finding the ONE carrier in Total Germany.

I played about 3/4th of the way through the campaign, and only found 1 battleship. I got all the merchant tonnage i needed within the first month.... so the rest of my time was spent driving around on a goose hunt. Played for 4 hours this morning and it was the final straw.. i didn't see a single merchant. Just task force after task force.. after task force. None of which contained anything bigger than a Dido.

what a waste of time.. zZZzzZzZzz

Luckily i made a save just before Happy Times ended. I'm bailing on this campaign and going to "Western Approaches" instead.

Thats too bad because i was planning on Mare Nostrum after happy times. I like the idea of a good campaign in the med, with the warmer climate etc...

commandosolo2009 05-29-10 01:12 PM

actually I sunk 2 Dido light cruisers (I was about to write DLC when I thought they may understand it as dowloadable content, so Dido/././) which did not count as objective sinkings.. mare nostrum only advantage is that you can burn as much fuel and kill pretty much anything ahead of you, just be at the right place (AO).. plenty of rearm points, plenty of air support (which is useless) by marina regina, is that a macaroni brand?:hmmm::har::haha:

I know how you feel. It was a pretty dire campaign. Sick to death looking for them battleships. Drumbeat and the Black pit for me :D

jxyn 05-29-10 11:40 PM

Yes, I'm stuck in the Med. There were no Pedistal convoys, and I could not satisfy mission requirring BBs to be sunk. The mission scenarios don't seem to be set up fully and the mission tasks are not very realistic.

Best avoid this campaign path.

Factor 05-30-10 11:20 AM

Damn. I only packed shorts and tees.

Cujo 05-30-10 03:01 PM

I agree, avoid. I am too far into it to go back to a previous save.

MattDizzle 05-30-10 03:19 PM

I hate to say it but i agree. Im up to august and havent seen a single merchant ship west of tunisia. Got one battleship and carrier early on but its been a total dd and dido snoozefest since than. Ill push through someday.

Hartmann 05-30-10 06:00 PM

The problem is the "objectives" based campaign were you have to sink a fixed number of targets, and always warships. it´s ridiculous

I hope that some heavily moddified campaign will be ready in the future with more realistic requeriments. :hmmm:

Noren 05-30-10 07:55 PM

but in the advertisments for SH5, did'nt they brag about the dynamic convoys? I remember that the example is for the mediterreanian:
"sink task forces first, to make it easier to hunt the merchants later, or vice versa - its your choice!"

Did'nt really work out like that?

That seems to be a theme we're running into here.

I remenber how terrible the vanilla SH4 campaign was before Lurker got his hands on it . However SH5 campaign looks way more complicated .

commandosolo2009 05-31-10 06:30 PM

guess what, I finished Force H 2 bat's and I'm confused with Alex/Haifa, Force A, or Malta.. Which of these I have a better probability of ending first?? And those *&^&*^%!! carriers, how do I find them??? BTW, I'm stationed now inside Meditteranean, at AO between Israel, Lebanon and Egypt.. with a 100% realism.. I need intel fellas..

Oh, almost forgot, BS are now Kent/Dido/Royal Sovereign mixes, the last had a 17 destroyer screen, but shes now home for sharks and biologic..

Who called pre 1941 ''happy times''?? with all those refit ports scattered inside the Medit, I think this is the HAPPIEST times....

commandosolo2009 06-02-10 04:42 AM

I'm about to finish Mare Nostrum minor victory.. I finished Force H, Force A, Alex/Haifa/Beirut supplies, and now left with Tobruk:yawn::down::-?

for all crosses except the big two, this is all thats left

So, Its not boring and BTW, it's July 2nd 1941

fastest finish yet..
