modding a bad day
 
just some thoughts considering the 'scriptability' of the game and options when your day turns bad.

would it now be possible to mod an option for "abandon and scuttle ship" [perhaps via the XO]? perhaps then somehow either floating some crew in dinghies to be later rescued, or surrendering under the guns of the escorts?

could the 'death screen' be modded to show the boat passing crush depth or just laying helpless on the sea bottom? perhaps some other ideas??

I find your lack of faith disturbing, Herr Kaleun. :D

It may or may not be possible to mod the death scene, but I think that the abandoning ship part may be out of our reach.

Here's an idea...
 
For an improved Death-Screen, how 'bout a Mod that spawns a few of the dingys, normally seen in one of the 'Insert Special Agent' missons, around your Sub when it's fatally wounded? The game automatically switches to the Freecam as it spirals outwards from your floundering Sub and you'd see the crew effectively abandoning ship. It could look a bit like this :DL:

This reminds me, I haven't seen any lifeboats in SH5 yet :hmmm:

The death screen is just a page in the menu like any other.

thanks for your replies.
i like the idea of the abandoning-scuttling ship option. i really take ownership of my struggling kaleun and like to have another option if i get nailed. i remember subcmdr careers in SH3 and hope for something similar here.

re the death 'page'; is it possibly to link it to a more graphic option? is it worth the effort?

At this point in time?
Anything is worth looking into.
Even if a targeted Mod idea does not work?
What you discover may help in other areas.
Don't think of the limitations of past versions.
This is a whole new Ball Game.

I can't play the Game yet.
But I can see a World of possibilities!

We are only a month or so into this version.
And some of the Best of the Best Modders are hard at work!

Then there is Fresh Meat Modding also.
They have no preconceptions so don't fall into the
'we couldn't do that in SH3/4 so it won't work now.'
trap.

I say let's Kick this Pig and see what she'll do!
