Install issues...

Hi all,

Befor I buy SH5, I want to try SH4. After installing, and want to start for the first time, there is a moving bar. That first moving bar goes to the end.
OK.
After that, I choose introduction (because I'm new to this). A moving bar starts again to load that part of the game. Half way the moving bar stops and all loading activities stops. I have to push the reset button on the computer to go any further.

Does anyone know what I'm doing wrong or is this a known issue or.....

Thanks in advance,
Easy

SH4 right from a new cd... (I think v1.3), bought in Holland for 8 Euro.

Windows XP... SP3
Pentium (R) 4 CPU 2,4 Ghz. 512 Mb
Memory for Windows manualy changed from 750 Mb to 1,5 Mb...

I hope, this will do?

Any mods installed?

Since you don't have U-Boat missions add-on, be sure to get the latest patch and bring the game to v1.4. This will make it much more stable.

??

Are you referring to windows paging file / virtual memory? If you have only 512 MB of RAM that this is too little for SH4. For optimum game play you need 2GB of RAM to play SH4.

NO Mods.
Indeed, Windows Virtual Memory manually changed from 750 Mb to 1,5 Mb.
And indeed, see other reply, only 512 Mb internal RAM.

If possible install more RAM, and most importantly - DL and install latest patch v1.4. Last patch released for original SH4 makes it much more stable and removes copy protection which was giving people headaches.

I would recommend though, to get the U-Boat add-on. This will bring the game to v1.5 without installing any patches. And you will be able to run all the latest mods.

You need 1gb ram and a geforce6200 or ati9600 minimum according to shiv system requirements.

Exactly. At first when I got SH4 I had only 1 GB of RAM. Game was unplayable for me. After I upgraded to 2 GB I could play it. Now that I have 3 GB it runs smoother than ever.

your hardware is too old to play this game...

Thank you all for the information!

I'll look around for buying a new computer.
I'll have a look what I need for SH5...
Any recommendations...?

Again, thank you,

It all depends on your finances. A cheap core 2duo plus a g31 motherboard, 2gig ram and a geforce9600gt would make a decent budget rig although outclassed for modern games will play most current ones and can be built second hand.

I've bought 3 nice gaming rigs off Craigslist. Just make sure they let you try it out and run a few test. I got a AMD 64x2 6000, 4mgs of ram and a 9800gt for $200, with monitor, speakers, ect..

To upgrade enough to play SH4 on a budget you could upgrade only those components that allow your computer to run the game smoothly.

What I mean is I maxed out my ram when I found some sticks on sale waited to find a good price on a video card then added that. Every other part of my desktop home computer was good enough. And, on top of that, I didn't buy SH4 until it was below $20. Later I got the U-Boat Missions add on.

I guess the main point I'm making is that if you are patient and replace ONLY the things necessary to get good game play from your computer for SH4 you can do it pretty darn cheap.
