AFAI have seen the "problems" with stadimeter is not the stadimeters fault, but rather inaccurate masthead-heights, and as in the above case, inaccuracies in the map.
You can double check stadimeter readings by using Arclights new periscope mod (which is extremely cool AND presents the most realistic graticule image i have ever seen in the SH- series at all) http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/show...=165408&page=2 Awesome mod - a must use mod in my humble opinion. |
There is a problem with the stadimeter, it currently gives inconsistent readings and is therefore pretty much useless. I also presume it is reading the wrong info, therefore garbage in= garbage out. Hopefully, that will be fixed in a patch.
In the meantime, you can download Arclight's excellent accurate periscope mod and determine range as the real Kaleuns did. I have tested it and if used properly, in conjonction with the enhanced recognition manual, it will give you accurate range readings all the time. The scale in the minimap is rounded off and to be used for rough estimates only. More accurate assesments can be made with the 'ruler' tool.
The recog manual uses mast heights for some ships and funnel heights for others which accounts for some of the problems. |
