World At War: Wolf Pack

OMG this is on the Military Channel here at 10 PM tonight, it's got to be an episode about uboats and the Battle of the Atlantic? Right? RIGHT?!?

Oh well I'll find out in an hour and a half. :D

CaptainHaplo 03-19-10 08:13 PM

I just watched it. Good stuff! I wonder how my grandpa must have felt sitting on a convoy headed to England, wondering if his ship would make it. Unfortunately I never got to meet him to ask.

I caught it about half way through, wasn't overly excited. But then again U-boats doesn't do it for me like Fleet boats do.:woot:

^^
I have the whole series on DVD... courtesy of the daily mail ...pity I had to buy the paper in order to get the series, but my mum is a DM reader  so it's not all bad.

I am adding this to my Amazon Wish List... the Military Channel has been showing it here on a regular basis, but there's just no way I can manage to catch all of it in order, which is how I'd like to watch it eventually.

I've seen several hours of it and it's obviously very well done, appears to be quite comprehensive and shows what's going when on all sides of the conflict.

Well worth every dime.
I have it on VHS. I remember watching it as a kid in 1973 or so. Probably what got me hooked on WWII.

The series shows a very human side to the conflict as well as a good history of the war.
I can't recommend it enough.

:)

Got the DVD boxset for Christmas  I remember watching it with my Dad back when I was about five or six.

I'll say it again.

This may very well be one of the most important records of WW2 history ever recorded in that it contains first hand eywitness accounts.

I am very greatful that it was made when it was even just a few years later would have been too late.

I was a little disappointed on the wolfpack episode in that it wasent in depth enough.. but then again I'm a subfan (duh).

Camaero 03-20-10 07:00 PM

Yeah I was a little bummed they didn't go into the late war stuff. It pretty much ended after the "second happy time". Still good though.

The Century Of Warfare has a great episode called "The War At Sea". I'm wondering if there is also one based strictly on WWII subs? The episode "Air War" is also VERY good for the fighter and bomber buffs. :yep:

frau kaleun 03-20-10 07:05 PM

Yeah, one hour to cover the "u-boat peril" in full is not really enough to get into the kind of detail that a BoA-specific documentary might, but considering that they devoted a whole hour to it in a complete history of the war, it's not bad.

breadcatcher101 03-20-10 09:37 PM

I think that's the one that shows some footage of Peter Cremer and his boat.
