Clearly sank British merchant yet the end game screen indicates neutral tonnage sunk?

30th Sept 1939

These bloody neutrals are doing my head in now! last night after a long journey through the channel we finally broke out into the celtic sea.I decided to conduct sound checks every 3hrs from here on upto our patrol grid just south of Ireland, and as fate would have it on our first sound check I heard distant screws somewhere N-NNE of us coming out of the Irish sea somewhere.I instantly gave chase and caught sight of the vessel after 30 mins.We were already in a good position for a submerged 90 deg perpendicular shot into it.As the vessel got closer we ID'd it as a British coastal merchant, about 2000 tonnes or so,nothing spectacular.I decided to carry on with the attack as the men have been restless the last few days, and I sent one into her bow causing her to sink in less than 5mins.As the night was drawing on and I was getting tired I decided to save my game and call it quits for the night, and was greeted with a very annoying sight! on the end game screen you get for coming out of the game,it didnt say 'allied tonnage sunk' it said NEUTRAL!! :damn::damn:
Now I CLEARLY saw the British flag on this bugger! it was a clear sunny day,I was 500m from its beam and saw the god damn BRITISH flag!!
Dont even tell me it was Canadian!! :o ,is their flag the same as the British?! and if it WAS Canadian what the hell are they doing heading towards the channel?,did they go that far?,I mean this early in the war?
Anyhow,i'm gonna edit the patrol after I finish it to cancel out this neutral sinking,i'm getting really annoyed with the buggers now.
One last thing, the sinking on the map is indicated in red, meaning allied/hostile :06:

Anyone know whats happening here?

Advice:
Alter the config file.
Change "neutral -1" to "neutral 1".
Now you'll get full credit for them.

One should not have to check flags in a hostile convoy.
Nor should one have to check flags of vessels entering enemy ports!

Just use some self control outside the declared War Zone.

So,do you have any ideas what happened here?,could it have been Canadian?

Snestorm 03-18-10 06:09 AM

Canada followed shortly after England, with a D.O.W. against Germany.
If she was canadian, you should have gotten credit.

I'm at a loss for what happened.

This will be my first time editting the cfg file but I should have no problems, just one thing, this hack fools the game into giving full renown as if it was a hostile ship?
Quite a handy tool to have for moments like these.

Ja, just edit out the minus sign.

Although it could be abused as a cheat, it's best used to stop SH3 from cheating you.

Thanks again :yep:

Are you sure? :hmmm:

When I first started playing, at least with my tired old eyes, the tonnage on that screen appears to be on the neutral tonnage line at first glance. However, if you count the number of lines down to Allied tonnage and count down the lines to the number, they match.

I still fall for that occasionally and have to double check.

:)

You know,I am hoping this could be the case.On initial inspection of the end game screen it seems to be indicating neutral tonnage,I shall have to check again later tonight. The sinking site marked in red on the map however fills me with at least SOME optimism that it may have been an enemy vessel *fingers crossed*

If it was red it was enemy tonnage.

I posted some pics on this thread for you if you haven't seen it yet.

I think it's solved.
The way they have that information layed out used to scare me too.

If you got a red mark on your map it was hostile.

Neutral ships show up green.
