The sun behind the clouds

Does the sun change brightness depending on the type of cloud cover, or the exact position in relation to a cloud cover. With the latter, the sun as I imagine, would change brightness depending on whether the sun actually is occluded by a piece of cloud texture.

I just found it abit odd that the sun here was abit dim on the top image, yet without any major occlusion of a cloud texture.

any news on the smaller sun?
