Random probably, but still cool

The crew of U 46 is surfaced with sea state calm and weather is clear.
Begin shelling a small freighter and at 15:32 get a open freq. radio message "SSS Being shelled by a German submarine................SS Neptunia".

Very cool that the random radio message came up and matched at the exact time the activity I was performing.:yep:

What does the SSS at the beginning of the message mean? Couldn't find it in the GWX glossary... SS is Steam-Ship, I know.

SSS was the wireless code for "attacked by submarine"

Fantastic that you can get reports of your own attack, will have to keep my eyes peeled for this :yeah:

Gilbou 03-14-10 08:28 AM

SSS has the same meaning as SOS

The difference is SSS means attacked by submarine

SOS was a non-attack call for help

I think it was still random chance it happened and not part of the attack itself.
I could have torped him instead and probably the message would have been the same anyway and not relevant.
Still it was unique to match up.

I agree it was random, but still very cool!
