Just back from visiting the Drum...
Went to New Orleans on business yesterday and while driving back to Florida today via Mobile, AL, could not help but stop in a Battleship Memorial Park.Took a run around the old Alabama battleship and then went on to my favorite part of the park, the USS Drum Gato class submarine.Enjoy that old boat was impressed with the repair work to the bow and stern as opposed to my last visit about a year ago.Interior needs some work, esp the conning tower... but still just great to be in one, can still smell the diesel fumes.Captains stateroom is open now so laid down in bunk.I am nearly 6'3 so was a tight fit.Anyway, thought I would share my trip, just love that old sub:salute:

Been there about 5 times
Going through it the first time made me appreciate what those guys went through so much more than if I had never been on a WWII sub.
Would like to walk through an S class if there are any still around. |
