Weather patterns
Gentlemen Kaluens,
Heres a question for you...since I have been trying to figure this out myself...no dice. When a storm comes during mission...is it possible to outrun it and stay in calm water? During my early career years, I use my deck gun allot...and once a storm rolls in, it can take weeks to go by. I was wondering if anyone knew the scoop? /S Apache312 |
Nope...your not able to outrun it because it is part of the SH3 worlds your boat is rendered in.
You have two choices.... 1. Ride it out and hope it relinquishes in a day or two. 2. Save the game and reboot the game...upon reloading the game engine will roll an imaginary dice to determine the weather conditions in your area. |
on the subject of weather not meaning to hijack this thread but where can i get the weather generator? as the link in the sticky appears to be dead..

Which one?

outrunning the wheather is not an option for me.
I try to not save when I'm playing. just pausing is allowed. that means: (in-game) days of 15m/s and just 5-6knots surfaced ..... |

Still haveing issues with weather.. been in a storm for 3-4 days now. This storm is a nasty one with 15 meters a second winds and waves that make surface travel a waste of fuel. So i am just sitting waiting. |
I like the fact that you are playing it out (storm) as for me at least it is closer to the genuine experience. We recently came through a nor'easter which always lasts 3 days. The blow churned up the ocean wicked.

Master the storms!
Learn to operate in all conditions if you can,I personally like storms and such, they provide good cover against aircraft if you know how to use them in YOUR favour. The only problems arise when trying to attack ships submerged in storms due to the high waves coming over the scope,in which case I recommend shadowing your target until nightfall and attack on the surface bow on (this narrows your profile increasing stealth even more) from about 1000-2000m ( I have even managed to attack from as close as 500m in the darkness before by waiting submerged and blowing tanks just before the attack to achieve total surprise) or so,set to run just under the surface with an impact pistol,no magnetics!,they have a good chance of detonating prematurely blowing your cover.Attacking in storms also seems to have the added bonus of increasing the chances of a sinking by increasing the rate of flooding, sometimes taking just minutes.
Don't forget to pay homage to Neptune beforehand, you don't want to enter the abyss WITH them now do you? :arrgh!: Master the storms and they will soon become your ally. |

Step 1: Have copy of "Ride of the Valkyries" in your onboard record collection. Step 2: Wait until storm arrives. Step 3: Order radioman to play "Ride of the Valkyries" and crank up the volume on that mutha. Step 4: Switch to Ship Cam. Step 5: ??? Step 6: Profit! |

Step 7: thank Thor for your success and may he bring more storms your way. |

Stiebler (NYGM) produced a document called "Silent Hunter Weather Report". In it, it says "Saving and reloading a game has been widely reported by different players to reset the weather change counter to zero, causing further delays in weather changes". This has always been my experience in GWX, obviously others have different experiences. This report was added to and corrected by the developers of SH3 at Ubisoft and made interesting reading at the time.

After patroling through a solid 21 day storm :/\\!!, I came here and read through 8 or 9 of the many SHIII-storm threads and I also found something similar to this.
Of course I can't find that post now (admittedly, I'm not as motivated), but IIRC, it said that there is a bug in the SHIII weather generator. It's supposed to change the weather in no more than 3 days, but if you save and reload, the timer gets reset to zero, hence seemingly endless storms. Since that time I'll just ride through storms w/o saving until they change. I've never had a storm last longer that 3-4 days which is fine by me - it's the North Atlantic after all. Quote:
