How to progress in missions

(This is not the "I can't select / progress in missions" problem of pirates! This isn't a technical problem, I bought this game!)

Hi guys,

The SH series have always been something I wanted to get in, looks like I got the wrong game to do so, looking at all the complaints, but I bought the game yesterday anyway...

I took my first mission (British Supplies, the west GB mission) and went to the patrol zone. The thing is, whenever I spot a ship somewhere, it's long gone before I make it there, and I'm trying to intercept. So basically here I am, patrolling the area like mad but missing all the ships.

Then a wild message appears, "relocate", I do, I still miss ships, "be more aggressive", and then "cease all operations, you stink". So here be my questions:

1. Isn't the mission about sinking merchant and warships within the perimeter (which is a large one)? So what are the patrolling orders about? What if I don't go to the patrol zone but sink ships still within the perimeter?

2. What is the difference between spotting a ship as an actual ship (the square with a tail) on the map; and just receiving a heading (simply a line from your ship)? Is one the radar and the other hydrophone?

3. Can you point me to what I should actually be doing in this mission? I know this is quite a general question but at least give me some pointers!!!

Thanks a lot in advance. If you answer my questions I'll be sure to ask more, but this way you'll gain an extremely valuable member to your community :D j/k
