Dear UBIsoft Romania (SH5 dev's). I'm so sorry I can't purchase your game

I've purchased every simulation UBisoft has released on release day for... hmm forever. And I just wanted to tell the developers of SH5 that this is the first time ever I cannot purchase a simulation - and I realize it's not your fault. The fact is my Internet is unstable and I spend a great deal of time sick, and time in the hospital.

The problem is, when I'd need the game most... when I'm sick - I know I would not be able to play due to lack of Internet. That is a frustration I just can't afford to have when I need to escape from my current reality.

I hope some day you will offer a patch that allows many of us without constant Internet to play off-line. The day that's offered I will go out and buy it - even direct from UBISoft so you don't lose money to retailers. I don't mind all the registration stuff, using a DVD to play, etc. That was never a problem. I'm not sure a note like this will make it anyone who can make a difference. My hope is, it does. However I've sent letter/e-mail to UBIsoft corporate with no response.

Once again, I really want to play SH5, and am very sad I can't support you. Hope I didn't break any forum rules.

Sincerely,

-Jeff

Your not alone Jeff.

Indeed, welcome to the club!

When I buy a game, I want certain assurances that I can play said game whenever I should choose to do so. This OSP removes that certainty, and until it is either patched out, or fixed (i.e. the servers remain up 24/7 with no downtime, and no unexpected outages), I remain unsure as to whether I will eventually buy this title.

There are many more with all their own reasons why the can't/wont play SH5.
Hopes this knowledge will make you feel a little bit better.

Meanwhile, there still is SH3/SH4.
You can steer you own boat, you don't need to talk to your crew to get things done (if your crew isn't on strike that is).
You can play the full war, and many more. :yeah:

Hey Jeff! Hadn't seen you post anywhere in awhile.

Good to see you are still out there. Wish you could enjoy SH5, I know with you at the hospital all the time you see you could do a lot of realtime campaigns. Especially with this one only going to 43 so far.

Rip

:salute:

Oh don't cry.. :D If you wanted to play it anyway you would look to find a solution harder to solve this.. But I guess acting the role of victim suits you better isn't it ? :)

Bosje 03-13-10 07:49 AM

that's a bit harsh isnt it, Indietro?

sorry to hear about your problems, Jeff. possibly the best argument against DRM i heard so far, hang tight sir!

Some of us prefer to walk on the bright side, Indietro, away from shady dealings.

Jeff, you're definitely not alone. I'd take SH5 right now, with all the inherent bugs and design issues, if it weren't for OSP. It's the deal breaker.

Indietro 03-13-10 08:27 AM

Well it maybe harsh but it's true..

flakmonkey 03-13-10 09:29 AM

It depends on your local hospital, and what country youre in but many hospitals now have free wifi in certain areas, i often sit in the little park outside my local hospital with my lappy and use the wifi service.

I don't go to pirate sites. It would be nice to just pop the game in, register, patch, and play. And the post wasn't to garner sympathy for myself, it's to demonstrate how the bad decisions made with this DRM impacts people in ways they might not have thought of. I know of a few soldiers in Afghanistan who play military sims on their downtime and they're screwed too (Internet is only available for e-mail).

Hi Rip, good to see you too!

That's about the most insensitive post I've seen in along time around here.

I hope you get shown the DOOR. :yep:

It's quite harsh.anyway if the aim of DRM is to discourage piracy, imho they failed. sunk on leaving base. rammed. from a fishing boat. a gondola.

mind your retro, man.

Insensitive isn't the word. Let's just hope you never have any long term medical issues.

Just because you are able to play it without any hassle, does not mean that others are in the same position. Seriously, I'm beginning to wonder if Ubi is paying people like this to bash posts criticising their DRM!

Well I don't have the ailments to contend with, my internet connection is dodgy. So until there is a way to play the game without a conection, I will have to pass for now.

Don't get me wrong, I really want SH-V, and I want to support Ubisoft, by purchasing their products. I bought SHIII and SHIV after their releases, and waited for the patches and mods to make the games stable and even better than their stock versions. So I paid full price for them.

So until or if ever the DRM gets dropped, I must wait and hope.
