Propellers separate control

Good evening to everyone,

I notice with unpleasure that also in the last chapter of Silent Hunter, V, the submarine cannot be really controlled.

I’m explain better: reality when someone want to reverse course as quick as possible,
instead of turning the rudder to the right or left whole, inverts the transmission of the port or starboard propeller. For example in the movie "The hunt for red October" and scene where Marko Ramius (Sean Connery) commands reverse march propeller starboard for rotate faster starboard, precisely.

Another great defect is that when one wants approaching night silently surface an enemy ship, not can do with battery propulsion but only with diesel engines.

Whoever able to create a patch / mod or new commands for do this,
I would be willing to pay well, because so you would give true sensation of command of submarine.

Thanks for attention and I really hope that some true expert accept my request.

After squinting to read your post (don't use black text, pleeease ), I see what you are asking. You want to be able to throw the propeller on the side of the boat you want to turn to go into reverse. Firstly, I don't think this would be possible due to hard-coding and if it was, I don't think it would actually have the desired effect in game, as the programmed physics of the u-boats movement would have to be adjusted, even re-written.

It's an unusual request, but I see the logic although I don't know if the U-Boats actually used this principle while turning, I figure it's a more modern innovation.

I changed the font colour to white, that should be better readable for those using black and dark blue as style :hmmm: A PITA for those using light blue, though  but I can't revert to default font colour, sorry.

Been tried; can't do

Hi

and for the battery surface mode instead diesel enigines like in the movie "Das Boote", the scene when the U-96 follow the british destroyers at gibraltar on the surface with battery propulsion.

Thanks

As with the first question this is also hardcoded and cannot be done as far as I know.

Moin,

turning the boat by using opposite speed settings for left/right engine was used to maneuver wherever little space was available, e.g. harbor basins. This maneuver was called "Baksen" in German. But although we have two propeller shafts the game engine only simulates one source of propulsion. What you see at the u-boatīs stern is just eye candy. Therefore this canīt be realized.

Re the use of electric propulsion when surfaced, itīs not possible.

Regards,
DD

When I play SH3 + GWX and I'm on surface with one engine charging batteries (I have a type II) I only see the left propeller move from behind the sub, the right one doesn't. If I turn off battery charging, the right propeller starts to move.

It's still the eye-candy!

This was one of the factors people first thought it was possible!

And if you go into the control room and look at the engine revolution guages above the planesmen, you'll see that the right engine is running at flank speed while it charges the battery.

This is built into the game and happens no matter what mods you use. It doesn't mean that a modder can go in and change that part.

if you have a look in NSS_Uboat7b.dat there are two nodes (189 and 192) that describes left and right propellers positions.

But I don't know whether the propulsion forces are applied both to the same point

You can look at the files with S3D, a Hex editor,
upside down with a shot of Vodka.
It don't matter!

Unless, and ONLY unless you hack hard code?
It ain't gonna change.

One of the hardest things for me to do is to hold information back.
One Major bit I was asked to hold back involves hard coded stuff.

I'll give you a Clue.
Why do you CTD if you click on the Black Sea area somewhere abouts?

There are 2 people that have the answer!
I am the one that figured it out.

Hi privateer,

I'm not the other one but i really should like to fix this "annoyng since release ctd bug". Is this difficult to fix? Can you release it as a mod or show to us how to fix it?

Thanks in any advice mate.

Madox58 03-12-10 07:49 PM

Hi Rubini,

I discovered the problem cause by running the Game
in a 'shell' let us say.

From version 1 to 1.4b there has been Security Defeat programs
out there.

They are flawed.
The Black Sea CTD is just one I traced to those programs.
I also have a feeling that some of the Save Game problems are
related.
But I did not test that area.

My test for the Black Sea CTD was to run 2 installs.
One was totally stock with Security.
One with the No Security Fix.

I could not reproduce the CTD in the 'shell' with a stock install.
I could hit the CTD Everytime in the 'shell' with the 'fix'

You decide.
It can be corrected with a lot of work and the proper software.
I don't have the needed software and have no plans to buy it.

And am I correct in my thinking that Ubi approves of the 1.4b fix?
:hmmm:
